turbo vs big bore

im sure this has been covered before .... in several threads .... but here's my take on it:

until a couple years ago i would have said BB just because i built my own turbo in 08 and while it was super fun it was like a light switch; on or off power.

last year i got one of the new Boondocker kits with EBC and it is amazing. the way they're tied into the TPS makes for a linear power band like that of a turbo. the sled is a 600 PRO and the torque it makes is very impressive. It took me one evening after work it install and will be easy to take off and put on a 14 if i decide to go that route. most big bores are impossible to take off so they go with the sled or you find a stock motor to put in when you sell.

PROS

If you ride at altitude the turbo has a big advantage making up for lost air pressure, This will make it an easy choice depening on riding style

Properly set up I believe a turbo will add longevity to a motor in this application.

-engine tuning is changed and not as lean in certain areas, fuel does act like a lubricant

-Because the engine receives pressure in the bottom end lubricants are also compressed to friction surfaces

-Cylinder pressure after ignition is not dramatically increased but pressure Is maintained longer during the power cycle giving more leverage to your crank the farther it swings out,
this is were the power is made and because of it the motor is not over stressed

CONS

Cost

Lack of understanding can cause grief

Here is my take. Carls 900 with boondocker turbo, all pros no cons lol
except when you grenade it and your a ways out on rebuild parts. thats a bad time

IMO, at elevation the new turbo kits work SOOO smooth its hard to even consider the bigbore in my mind. they dont even play in the same league.

where are you out of and doing most of your riding?

Pros and cons turbo vs big bore ... thinking about a silbler turbo or BMP big bore

silber because of really good support from Boston racing and guys like them. But I would suggest not running a stock top end , I would at a bare min replace the pistons and head to work with the turbo. Stock pistons don't live long and the turbo will shorten the life even more .

RKT 858 kit and a silber GT63 kit , you better hold on when you wack it!

Why would you need to combine a big bore with a turbo.

$375 for RK Tek piston kit rather than $2150 for the 858.

I would also consider Boondocker.

I would also consider Boondocker.

pistons and head kit is around $700 ,you get ported jug and big bore with a head for $1400 more and I am sure a fair amount more power with still low boost. True you don't need to big bore the motor but there is more power in changing the port timeing for sure and in my opinion a head swap is a must.

I'm putting together a ViPec controlled Silber kit on an RK Tek 858 as we speak, I'm hoping for the best of both worlds!
