Turbo sleds. Are the reliable or what?

Nice thing too on the doos is at 7lbs you are going to be very pleasantly surprised. They pull freaking hard even at 7. Mine at 7 would absolutely destroy the race gas m8 and m1000s I used to have. Very ridable in the trees as well. I am curious to try a well set up 872 or SHR880. The 860s I have been around were turds.
 
I agree with deaner. These things love boost. And you can get them to spools super quick too. The one thing with etecs is if you hit the rev limiter with a turbo it will eat reeds like candy. So that is one thing to watch out for.

That doesn't even look like a turbo sled... Those skis should be way up in the air in that hero snow...

As for owning a Turbo sled vs a Non Turbo. I have had both going on 3 years now and I would say if you can't afford to have both I would stay away from a Turbo. They definitely take more maintenance and repairs than a stock one. I have a T3 that isn't turbo'd and it is just fine for 95% of the conditions from 2000'-6500'. The turbo is only needed if the snow is really deep or you start to go higher than 7000'. It doesn't seem you ride high enough to really justify a turbo. They cost a lot more money, they are way more fatiguing to ride, and are way more finicky than a stocker. If we have another dismal snow year I'm probably going to dump my turbo and just stick with a stocker.

Kmod coupled suspension keeps the Skis down. I was trying to get even less ski lift.

Yeah depending where I ride I can get well above 7000 feet. A turbo isn't really "needed" but the added power can definitely add to the fun factor. I'm not a good enough rider to get the max out of my stock sled. I'm not a good enough driver to get the most out of a Honda Civic, but would I have more fun in a corvette? Yes I would. Most people don't ride enough to justify the cost of a brand new mountain sled but they sure do enjoy them when they ride them. Only reason I'd add power to my sled is purely for the enjoyment of having the added power. But i dont want to lose reliability. It sounds like a properly set up turbo running at modest boost shouldn't be too much of a pain in the ***.

I don't want to spend the thousands on a good turbo and have it leave me stranded on the mountain or have it be nothing but a headache. I'd rip it off after a season if that was the case.
