TURBO EXCHANGE

Go on HCS, glen hall has some info on the turbo upgrade, if that does not answer you're questions call glen @ hall racing he is a good guy to talk to,Even if it's not about D&D products, if it was me I would go Evo, but each to there own

That’s where I’m going with this. If I had no other aftermarket components, I would go with the EVO system. But since I and others have the 2.0 why change over to another system? Spend the “$1500 EVO” or “$1200” D & D for the turbo upgrade. Is it optimal maybe not? Is it acceptable probably? Again my simple mind thinks the 2.0 with a 4 bar map sensor should override the ECU. But I’m also the type who likes to be different.

Hillclimbpro the only big advantage would be the ability to not run race gas/av gas. I could see on a longer trip where it wasn't available and you ran out. I have a nice fueling system in my trailer and hauling race gas in cans can be a pain.

There are a few reasons for me: Snow conditions and boondocking through the trees. Beside the basic others such; as easier on components and fuel mileage. The main one is my wife and son like ridding my sled more then there M8's, until it gets technical. Scares the hell out of me watching them climb or coming into a corner.

For fuel purpose I guess that would help if you were out some where and ran out. I just don't see why people would want to go from some power to more power to stock. You modded it for a reason. Just my outlook. With a switch it's just one more thing to break or go bad .

Switchable power levels

A switch for adjustable power levels will happen at some point. I told Jim I was a lot more concerned with his production of current product than the development of the switch lol. Mountain guys don't understand the need for less power but it is more about adjusting to fuel quality for most.

Elevation....

I was under the impression that the extra boost was coming from the new compressor design? What I’m hearing is there is some safe guard in the software of the ECU, that doesn’t allow more boost or fuel from a piggy back? That you didn’t have with your Z1?
My simple mind tells me if I have the hi jacker set at say 20 PSI that the new efficient design of the compressor would give me say 24 psi? I would think stock timing parameters would be fine.
My original thought process was
1. Keep the Hi jacker
2. Upgrade the turbo
3. Upgrade the ECU when adjustable version is available
What I’m hearing this is not possible to build more boost with a piggy back system? My only complaint with the EVO system is its non adjustable. As you stated “Patience would have been a priceless virtue in this case” Until adjustable system is available I will keep learning until something is available.

All of us that are in the Cat love nest are lucky to have someone like Glen Hall, a true gentleman of the sport. His posts on HCS are very specific about having no testing at higher elevations. All I know is I rode this exact sled with a turbo upgrade and a 2.0 last year and it didn't make more boost at elevation like I wanted.....and we weren't the only ones that played with it.

I also am not naive enough to think everyone will buy an Evo turbo kit.....and that's ok cause that is what makes sledding so cool.

Can't wait for our BC kits!!! See how these bad boys stack up against our hot rod MCX yammi's!!! Gonna be a good winter! Happy boosting -Cody

"Generally Disapointed!"

There was a guy on here last year with the "general lee" build and he replaced his stock huffer with an after market one and I think was using the boondocker box. I don't think he had much luck and said it was alot of money wasted. Your better off to go with something that has been tested and proven.

Hey guys, I was the first to tackle this project last year on my own as the owner of the "General Lee', which was nothing but "Generally Slow", and "Generally Disapointing"

Here it is, we tried several different ways to make this work last season. Sounded simple to throw the header on and slap a 2871 in it and go, install wasnt cheap and took some time but wasnt too bad. We used a completely seperate fueling system (ecu wouldnt allow over 13lbs boost) then we put on several different 2.0's ( still wouldnt go over 13lbs boost) so basically i had a sled that didnt need anything on it, ran to 13lbs boost and made as much power @ that as the Boondocker 2.0's cuz i had a cold air intake and a big turbo.........

This was my first BIG build, wanted to be the first.....well i wasnt the first to waste a bunch of cash, spent last weekend tearing it all off and putting a nice clean EVO 275 kit in mine. I was happier in 5 secs burning down the ditch than i was all last season riding all over hell and trying to figure out WHY????, even calls into Glen Hall couldnt help me.

I could send people copies of my bills from last season that would BLOW your mind lol I'm not plugging anyone, just stating the facts that I tried it, it didnt work, im no wizzard, i was ready to dump and turn key a yammy.....that def will not be happening now!!!!

SOOO in closing if you have 2.0 sell it to your buddy who doesnt want more than 220hp and spend the money for what someone else has already put the time and effort in to make a big time sellable item. Yes it probably initially could save you money to build your own.....NOT.... lets just say im not sure il be able to write those bills off from last year lol

Thanks for the reply. I think we have all been there with a project sled we spent a lot of cash on and a ton of time just to be disappointed and wasted a whole season of riding (or not riding as the case may be). There are things that work and things that dont. Great thing for the info on these forums if you can sift through the BS and find the good stuff.

An honest and educated observation built on experience. Nothing better in the information age, on this, or any forum. Thank you stangstretch.

YAYAYA heard and read all the BS before- !! No seriously one thing I’ve notice is the 1100 side seams to be more civil then our 800 counter parts. I appreciate everyone’s input without being disrespectful to one another. Love the way mine runs now but, like everyone else just trying to stay ahead of the next guy. I’m just another old fart that takes longer to make a decision. Anyone got a EVO black Friday deal pm me!!

priceless

I have been running yammys and started with the adjustable tune needing kits that when wanted you could turn up. It wasnt as practical as it sounds more boost usually requires a fuel change and retune that are hard to pull off mid ride. I went mcx got more consistent power and no messing with it. I would not go back to a kit I have to tune thats why I like the evo set up put it on and go. I ride more than most and still dont want to give up even one day to watching guages and pushing buttons.. just my two shiney pennies. julio.

Adjustable turbo kits

I think we are all civil and straight forward here, opinions respected and such. It's a pleasent change. I also opted for the "no muss no fuss" theory and rode mcx on my apex. There are a lot of turbo kit "builders" out there. Some don't have as much tuning time or skill as some end users do to be honest. I personally don't presume I can out tune a company that does the scope of work someone like Evo does on a day to day basis. I trust their ability to tune correctly. Like Julio, I just want to ride, not tune and play with stuff.

And Buz....the next guy is riding Evo gear. You need bigger Evo gear to stay ahead of him lol. :face-icon-small-win

WKM your funny!; How true it is and I'm sure your one of the top dogs to beat! Glad I live south of the border! One thing I've learn there will always be someone faster. My ego does sometimes gets in the way of reality.

I'm not 21 anymore so caring about top dog is less important lol. But everyone enjoys a little smack down every once in a while.
