looking to buy a turbo yamaha.i have rode both but not boosted. going west for the winter so looking to get something to climb with.dont want to work on it!! looks like the tricked out apex turbo's are selling alot cheaper.but does the nytro with a 240 kit have enough for the big chutes?do i need a 174 track or is the 162 good enough? have read a few guys have smoked the nytro's? is the head shim a must for reliability? looking to spend 10 to 15 grand on a turn key turbo yamaha. have my eye on a nice nytro. is the m10 a good setup for a rear skid on a nytro?
yea alot of questions but everything i am reading there is so many different thoughts.i love the reliabilty and major pull of the apex, but they are heavy pigs..looks like impulse is the hot setup? been watching the classified but nothing has really jumped out at me for a decent price. anybody have a tricked yamaha for sale not listed? i want major reliabilty and a climbing monster.will be in colorado, wyoming and montana all winter....

Hello, get ready for my opinion. You rode both without a turbo u say, well both ride alot different with turbos. I had a turbo apex, now have a turbo nytro, love em both. My nytro has a 174, love it! Could never go back to a 162, just me though. For some unknown reason people are blowing out the "tricked" out apexs, these sleds are should be selling for alot more. You will be low balling someone if you get a tricked out turbo yammy for 10-15 grand, but im sure you will find one. These sleds cost min 20 grand plus plus to build. I like the m-10 suspension, but have not rode with any other kind, get what you pay for i guess. As far as turbo kits go, everyone brand has issues, look on the forums, not one is perfect, pros and cons to each. Apex is heavy yes, nytro is also heavy, if coming from a two stroke be ready for a major change. You really have to work the sled with the power. That being said, once used to it, you'll never go back, love the power, again just my two cents. I would love to own both, they are soo much fun, hard to choose. Ive found you get unmatched reliability with all yammy four strokes. Heres my rant take it for what you will. Thanks, and good luck with your search.

thanks for the input. i have owned a 06 rtx a 07 attack and a 09 xtx. i have lived in mi, so the power was good at sea level. i have new xp's now but want a climbing sled.thought about a turbo on my xp, but it just dont cut it for power and reliability that yamaha has.seems like everyone is doing the nytro now. apex is old news. but damn those tricked out apex sleds are just plain sick!! and i still think you can't beat them in the long run!! why build one when i can get one done and tricked out for half the price. dont get me wrong there is nothing better then having something you worked hard for and put alot of time and pride into..i build custom rockclimbers and jeeps,so i love being able to say i built that not bought it!you never get out of a custom rig what you have into it...just the facts. i will spend most of my time in the tree's with my xp. but i wanna be able to go out and just do climbs. for that i want a yamaha... just wanna know IS THE NYTRO THAT MUCH BETTER? or is it just the in thing.

I'd say it comes down to rider position, a nytro will be closer to your XP in rider position. The apex will be further back. Both make lots of power boosted and have good reliability depending on the kit and who did the install.

A 240 kit will have enough power for 90% of the people out there, and a 162 will be enough for those same people. If all you want to do is climb chutes more power and a longer track is better. An M-10 is a good skid for climbing.

Apex VS. Nytro

These are 2 different animals.. Both have capabilities to make huge power. Both are reliable when boosted. I personally can not get used to the Apex and ride a TNytro.. Apex riders say the same thing about the Nytro. The choice you need to make is what chassis are you more comfortable on. Either sled boosted will do what you want it to do. I still like the 162. The 174 is a little tougher to ride in the trees IMO. Either choice you make im sure you will be happy with......:)

yea i am leaning towards a nytro.just some cheap turbo apex's on the market right now. i like the nytro chassie but setup is real touchy on them. seems like you need a well balanced skid and front for them to handle good. did a bunch of tweeking for that 09 xtx to handle. were seems like the apex is just a get on and shoot sled.i come from a long motocross background so i prefer to stand. but the chassie setup is kinda goofy on the nytro..will say again, it seems like it needs more fine tuning to handle right.. am i the only one that thinks this? what to do.... yea i know just buy a 2010 se, call impulse for a turbo, put a ez ryde or m10 on and a whole crap load of work...then the snow will be gone..so maybe next year.

i would say the apex is a better point and shoot climber, you can get more power out of the 4 banger, also with more nose weight i think it doesnlt wheelie nearly as much. one friend has a turbo RX1 400hp, and turbo nytro 270hp. his nytro wheelies so much that its hard to control he has gone from a 162x16 track to a 16x15 wide just to decrease the traction so it doesn;t wheelie. nytro has way more centralized weight so it would be a better all around sled but if your looking to keep your xp to boondock then pull out the turbo for some chute slayin days go with the apex.

ummmmmm... Not if the nytro is set up correctly....

this is kind of what i was thinking...seems like for all out climbing the apex seems to be better. like i said alot of the right parts and good setup will make the nytro easier to ride...but seems like a well thought apex with some decent parts would still be the chute king.

here is a few i like....the first nytro is my first pick.really like the other nytro but there was a post of motor issues? these are just some i am looking at. there is a couple boondocker turbo apex in there for 6 to 8 grand?

a correct setup apex will still do better than a correct set up nytro. i've seen some aftermarket skids still have trouble in some conditions and not everyone has 5g for m10

i would say 1 and 3 are the only decent choices there. that apex looks like skibumm's?? apex looks best out of them all, good suspension and impulse turbo. the first nytro has good suspension and would work well too, but i'd bet that the apex is pulling more hp.

If you can get Travis's (skibum) sled for 15g I would be on that like flies on...I'm sure in your searches you've seen Apex guys saying they love the Apex and Nytro guys saying they love the Nytro. You should ride them both before you drop that kind of coin and see which one fits you better. There are some way cheap Nytro's out there too.

3 obviously, but that would be ALOT of sled to get into for your first 4 stroke turbo, that things sweet, i hope he sells it for more than 15 for his sake, expensive to build. The first nytro might be a better choice.

i see you got the propane nytro from the thunderstuck crew..how you like it.
i have not made a offer on the apex, will not low ball people. would like to stay under 15 but the ones i like are closer to 20. you gotta pay to play right? so many choices, i just want to take my time and find that ONE sled.

I love my new propane nytro, my only issue now is i dont want to wreck the pretty thing lol. I would buy another turbo apex if i had the cash, they are both sweet sleds, totally different rides but equally fun. Good luck with your search. FYI alot of people are actually selling their nytro's to go back to the apex. Either way theres nothing like a Turbo apex or nytro.

damn why did you have to tell me that!!! i believe both need a good setup..then they are permagrin!!!!

I'm getting back into sledding, and just picked up my 4rth turbo apex. My last sled was a tnytro, and it honestly felt like it pulled harder then my apex's did, but I just like the feel of the apex chassis.
