i did some searching on here found some good info but still a little confused.

it seems that the type of fuel has a big role in the color of the plug, and different oils do the same in wash, and egt are good to tell if you got something going wrong with your tune. In my sled i will be running polaris oil and 50/50 race fuel. So what color should my plugs be if iam running some racefuel i have seen some on here that said there plugs turned to a more whiteish color??? I have a good bore scope "snapon" to check wash.

i should have my new engine running this comeing weekend iam just really scared of burning it down, dont have enough cash to do it all over again this year

Piston Wash?

What does the top of your pistons look like? I run Klotz with a 20% 110 race fuel mix and the top of the piston looks like the surface of the moon. At first I thought it was detonation but after a tear down it is a build up of carbon. I could scrape it right off and the piston looked fine. I have been told it was the race fuel and then others have told me it is the oil. I have since reduced my race fuel mix to almost nothing (trouble shooting another theory issue on my porting vs altitude vs detonation) have seen my piston wash come back to the blacker color...so I assume it was the race gas making the different colors on the piston. My plugs were the same coloring as pistons but I usually tune to the piston wash. Hope this helps.

i know thats what iam confused by i dont want to burn it up again this year. iam going to run 50/50 to be safe. i will run polaris oil till i run out then iam switching to supertech oil. i will also be running egts so that will help some

Do you have a known safe starting point on your fuel controller for your situation? Hopefully you'll have a starting point from your ECU setup or advised by your controller company because starting dead unknown is going to be a risky challenge.

Have you heat soaked your setup several times? Normally you'll be at a much lower alt then your riding so try for a good heated shop on your first few cycles (fat and safety...we just need a good heat cycle).

Easy does it and try to start your day one shake down and tune trip at as high an alt and you can get too for starters. Be aware that if it is also extremely or unusually cold weather to be prepared that your setup is going to be off down the road. Even though it's EFI be incredibly busy on the throttle as you begin. I'd break my motor in to satisfaction prior to ever starting the tuning process. For me that is four or five aggressive heat soaking cycles at the shop. A good high elevation cycle at the trailer, double checking cooling mostly. Then a trail shake down being busy through the RPM ranges for a few miles or minutes. Complete cool down...and then I go at it hard. This is a little more aggressive then many will do on their break in rides but it's been a successful system for us on many many super high performance 2 stroke setups.

Once you've got to this point and you are attempting to figure out your EGT's and reads go to my website and follow the Digatron EGT tech page as closely as possible. Disregard wash...you'll never get enough time on a new setup to initially tune your system. It takes time and heat to burn a wash and that is for high RPM or full circuit fuel management and that is not what you will need yet. READ plugs and read them for a duration at each select RPM....follow my spec's...in a short afternoon or less you will have an excellent idea of what your reports mean and then when you want to tune your sled's fuel/timing and or clutching/transmission you will be armed with the information that you need to succeed.

www.f-bombracing.com tech and then also follow the plug reading schematic...take a light and magnafier with you to tune. It's essential and there is complete information on your plugs that will cover all of your bases as you identify your state of tune and then tie that to your EGT's. Remember plug reading does not mean looking at the over all color of your plugs! It doesn't work like that and you have to have a duration of heat and kill your motor at the RPM that you are seeking info on or your reads will be inaccurate. Hope this helps
