trying to pull more r's m8 slp pipe kit

Well, maybe the 125/285 yellow white stock spring is better than it's Ti counterpart, in some ways but not it the way of getting your sled to pull consistent R's of 81 to 82 with the SLP setup. Been there done that with several different Primary weight combo's NONE helped. Now as I've said before my rider weight fully geared it 240 or so and I have a 09 162 riding from 5 to 8k, it may be different for someone who is a buck 90 fully geared up and running a 153. I know from talking to SLP their testing took place using a 153 and the rider weight of just under 200 fully geared. Oh I've also never used anything but the stock 36deg helix too. I'm headed in the secondary direction and see what I get. Unfortunatly it won't be until next season before I'm able to post results this seasons over for me. Will revive the post then with my updates. I will keep an eye on this post though as some of you are still riding and experimenting. As for the steering, my hime joints were pretty stiff when the sled was new. I put it up on the stand exercised the stearing a bunch and lubed up each joint. I also made changes to my shock settings, running 53lb in the clutch side shock and 50 on the can side. Rear shocks, the front has very little load on it (backed off a lot) the rear float is running 150 I believe, I need to check that though. One more thing, on the ski's I also flipped the rubber shoe that goes under the spindle around. This helped my heavy stearing better balanceing the pressure on the ski where it was not putting so much on the ski tip and centered the pressure more under the spindle. It worked for me anyway.

yes, i do realize this thread isnt going anywhere, but just thought i would mention i ran the straight 36 today and i still hit a wall at 8070.

starting to wonder if my stock tach just refuses to read any higher:rant:

it is so strange to me that its always maxing out at the same rpm w/ all my changes......

In my opinion, nothing's wrong with 8070 rpm. That's where the power is at on an M8.

ya that's true more or less, but i like to clutch for 100-150 over peak, our snow here is soooo wet and heavy, you can lose 150 or more rpm easily depending on conditions

If I could hold 8070 on a hard pull I'd be happy also. My sled will start in that range but soon falls off to 7800 or so, hopefully I can figure out something that works. Like Mike states clutching for slightly over is my goal also, by doing this my clutching should handle most snow condtions.

I agree my son installed the slp y pipe, pipe, and can on his 09 m8 he cant get above 8000 rpm, but it runs with my 2010 m8 maybe even a little better. it wasent even a race with the stock setup. I know slp claims you need no fuel controler on the pre 2010 m8 but have to wonder if this is why you arent changing your rpm it takes more fuel to make more power.

Desperado; Thanks for the advice on the shocks and skis. I reclutched mine again but decided to take my M7 so I don't know if it helped or not. I'll keep tinkering with mine as well and let you know what I come up with. I still have a couple of rides left on our snow. My son rides a 09 sno pro with just a can and Y pipe-yellow/white with 71 grams' 153" track. His pulls 78 to 7900 all day long no matter what snow conditions. I'm thinking if my tinkering with the springs and weights don't do any good I'll pull off the pipe and run the stock pipe. It appears the motor won't run past 7900 and thats where the stock pipe runs so be it.

I have the same problem. Just bought a 09 M8 sno pro le with the SLP pipe kit. It had 73 weights in primary with the 125-285 titanium spring, 36 helix,. orange spring. 6-9000 feet. won't pull over 7900 even on the stand. Went down to 68 gram with a 120-340 spring. It will hit 8000 on the stand; and that is all. I put it on the hill and my 06 M7 stock will do circles around it. Maybe the 09 M8 doesn't like the SLP pipe. One more thing: The only way I can ride it is in a straight line. It don't turn!!!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 120/340 spring. I ran the stock and the heavier weight primary spring and like the 340 rate the best. If an M7 is beating your slp piped 09 M8 than something is wrong. When my 09 M8 had just the slp pipe it ran much better than a stock M8 and was way stronger than my M7. Before I did the porting on my M8 I was running 70G weights, 150/330 D&D primary spring which worked awesome, and stock secondary setup. I was running 7-10K and it would run 7900-8000 rpm. A stock M8 does not like to run at 7900rpm for peak power. Without the pipe they should be ran at about 7700rpm. The slp pipe at 7900rpm makes great power. I tried running the 68G weights and hated them as the sled lost a ton of pull. Went back to the 70's and it ran much better. I have since had slp port mine, do head mod, and added the power commander III fuel box. I am running 74G mtx , 160/340 primary spring, 44/36 helix, and rock rollers. Sled with hit 8200rpm in a climb at 8500ft and flat out rips. Maybe your sled is a little on the lean side and needs some fuel to get more rpm. I have talked to guys that added the fuel box after the pipe and said the fuel box makes quite a bit more power on some as some have lower fuel pressure from the factory.

I don't think my sled is running lean; After a day of riding I pulled the pipe and checked the wash. It looks good. I'm thinking maybe the primary spring is binding in the cover plate. When I first pulled it apart the spring had to be pried out of the cover. I think I'll open it up a little and try that. You might be right on the 68's not pulling. It seemed kinda weak on the stand also. Next time I go out I'll take all of my weights and springs with me and tune on the hill. I'll let you know what goes.
