Truck Tires

BFG at in the summer as they suck in the winter, mud terrains are far worse in ice and snow..Blizzaks in the winter they work great .Amazing tire. Best winter tire is Michelin x-ice north..BUT..:mad: cant get them in north america, basicly a studded agressive mud like ice tire.. My friend over in Russia sent me a picture..way cool tire

I believe the blizzaks are W965 load range "e" for the heavy trucks.

So let me get this straight......these michelins you speak of, you have never seen in person let alone had them on a truck to try out for yourself. Just seen a picture and you are calling them the best winter tire? Wow what a great place to come for some solid information!!

Может, такой трюк прошел бы и на других шинах? Как выяснилось, нет. Заезды на специально подготовленной ледяной трассе с продольной насечкой, имитирующей колеи, показали, что на шинах-конкурентах автомобиль изрядно шатается из стороны в сторону на «колеях», а на Мишлене идет намного спокойнее. А «фишка» в том, что в рисунке протектора шин Michelin вообще нет продольных канавок, которые повышают чувствительность к колеям.

В итоге первые впечатления таковы. Пусть на шинах Michelin не так интересно проходить повороты в скольжениях (точнее, совсем не интересно), но в дальнюю зимнюю командировку я бы предпочел отправиться именно на них. Да и с заснеженной обочины на шинах Michelin выбираться должно быть проще.

Впрочем, окончательные выводы можно будет сделать только после полноценных сравнительных испытаний, в которых в этом году сойдутся два сильных дебютанта: шины Michelin X-Ice North 2 и Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7. Не знаю, каков будет расклад по результатам этого теста, но пока шины Hakkapeliitta 7 выигрывают в том, что у финских шин 48
 
I thought the same thing. I want ice traction and I want to be able to forge through the snow and mud in the parking lots. I'm thinking about going with the Goodyear DuraTracs. You can get these studded. Anyone have any experience with studded DuraTracs?

A lot of guys complain that the duratrac is too soft and squishy on duramaxes. they love the traction from the tire, but not the way it handles

on my last Dmax i ran 285/65/18 BFG AT. Got about 35K on them when i sold the truck and still looking good.
currently im running a 305/55/20 Cooper Zeon LTZ and I FREAKING LOVE THESE TIRES! yea they are wide but so what, they preform awesome, and i keep the sled deck/sled in the back of the truck for weight, icy roads are a non issue now!

I talked with a guy who had on the hankook tires and said that they were too soft and had to rotate every 2500 miles or they would wear down too fast (alignment, etc could be a factor here)

yah the cooper zeon ltz are a sick tire i got some put on my dads pickup and he loves em and then another buddy put them on his duramax and is way happy with them. also a 285/70/17 is just right in my opinion on a stock diesel you will be happy with the size trust me

According to Cooper's web site the only 17's in the Zeon's are 265/70R17.

285/70/17 = 32.7" Tall, 11.2" wide

265/70/17 = 31.6" Tall, 10.5" wide

Both should fit fine on 7-9" wheels. Both have about 7.5" of blackwall showing. IMO the 265 is a little small "looking" on the Dmax. However you will have to crank the torsion bars a little to fit the 285s without rubbing issues...

To me if you want a narrow tire, that 265 would be outstanding!
 
have you looked into deck cepek fc-II's? ive had mine on for a good 10,000 miles and they are the best tire i have every put on my truck..ive went through bfg at, pro comp, you name it..as far as snow, they are pretty good but they are also 37/13.50 so i figured they wouldnt be the best..

I went to 255/85 R 16's for my new winter tires. Cooper ST's, siped. They worked great last weekend towing our enclosed over an ice/snow packed grade and back down. I never did need to put it in four wheel drive. And they are pretty tall, 33".

They also handle very good on the pavement, cornering, etc. Great tire, although I do run wider tires on different wheels in the summer. I'm more practical in the winter......

Im running the 285/75 grabbers on my 2500 cummins, hell of a deal, cheaper then the BFG's and mine are studded, have a harder time getting the truck started then gettign around in the snow
 
Cooper Discoverer ATR is the best all around tire I've ever ran for mostly on-road and winter driving. Ran them on my last 3 trucks in ND and AK, I run in 2wd most of the winter here in AK where w/ the stock Michelin's I couldn't get out of my driveway w/o being locked in. Plus they've got a 50K mile warranty to boot. I've got 285-70-17's on my 2500 Cummins w/ about 45K miles on the tires and they still have many many miles left in them. It's a VERY popular light truck tire in Alaska.
 
2006 2500 HD 4door , 80,000 miles on the stock Bridgestone Dueler At . I replaced the stock 265/75/16 with 285/75/16 BFG AT's


The 285's rub just a bit , but they feel so much better pulling 12,000 lbs.
 
Replaced worn out (60,000 miles) 33x12.50X16.5 BFG AT's Load range D with 285/75R16 BFG AT's Load Range E on my '96 Dodge 2500 Deisel. The New tires look good (less balloony) and carry my camper significantly better. I get alot less side to side rocking with the Load Range E. Have had really good luck with BFG's and buy nothing but.
 
Got the Cooper MT's on my 01' cummings in a 265/75r16 and love em. 10 ply tire for hauling/towing, plenty of traction, not too wide, not too stock looking and only paid $150.00 a tire mounted and balanced.:beer;
 
I ran toyo 285 X 75 X R16s for 4 years and they were awsome in the snow. Currently I am running a 325 X 60 X R18 and they make my duramax feel light on the snow. I wish i had the 285s back but the 325s look awsome.
