truck camper wanted

I just picked up a '97 S&S 8' fully self contained (toilet) camper thru Craigslist a few weeks back for $2300.
I had to do a bunch of work on it for that price but it's ready for some snow camping this winter!

OK, so that's not what you're asking about but don't pass by a deal on an S&S if you find one.
Mine weighs 1450 Lbs dry and that's about 800 to 1000 Lbs lighter than a similar Lance and you'll want it light as possible with a 1500.

I originally wanted a Lance...It's a first name thing! But I'm real dam happy with the S&S.

Hey...S&S...Summer Sucks!

Anyway, Craigslist is your best bet. I found mine in three weeks of hunting.

Good luck

Lance.

i've had lots of campers in the past maybe this is an option theres lots of good used cheap class c out there just purchased one this year and was looking at a camper but with all the options of mh i went that direction.i bought a 7 grand mh for 2500 and its turn key generator and all .people can't afford to use them.i like the fact i can leave all my stuff in it on sun night

you are pretty limited with a 1500 if you are staying with hardsided campers. Go to RV.net or truckcamperforums

check out northern lite http://denver.craigslist.org/rvs/1324578831.html

NorthStar Freedom
Lance 805

Fleetwood doesn't have the best rep over on rv.net

If you are buying used make sure the camper will fit. Older campers will not fit on newer trucks. Truck beds have gotten more narrow at the tailgate

I forgot about this, Yes, measure your narrowest opening at the tailgate and ask the seller to measure the backside of the camper before you drive all the way from Sultan to Aberdeen do get the smokin' deal of the century...Oh wait...That was me!

when I moved from an f150 to a f250, my camper was too short, I ended up having to put 6" of lumber beneath it to clear my cab.

Dog,

I had that same problem with my Lance on my Big Truck! I had to run 2x6's the width of the bed for the camper to sit on.

Any way yeas Craigslist is the place to look. But MAKE SURE YOU CHECK FOR DRY ROT!!

Im just sayin....

Dry rot...particularly in the corners where the cabover part extends from the main cabin. I had a bit of a problem in that area. Used is the affordable way to get started, but I worry about stuff like that.....I was ready to buy when we looked and I should have taken more time.

Sunbather.... you could probably sell your avy to Fordman!!

if it's a lance be sure to check the "wings" (the area that wraps around your tailights) for rot

YES!!

That area in particular.. Also at some point in my campers life it developed a leak in the bathroom... Unbeknownst to me it leaked for several years..
