When we travel our fridge struggles to stay cold enough and then does not completely recover until the next evening. Do any of you have some ideas?

Thanks,

Kiliki

Hey Girl,
I try to plug mine into AC at least a day ahead of departure, to get it good and cold, then travel with it on high, turning it down to normal when I get to where I'm going. Works for me, freezer stays ice cold, but it's not as hot here as it is there.
How old's the camper???? Is it a 3 way fridge (AC, DC, Propane)?

Yeah, Mofo and I plug it a few days before and put the food in the day before. We do not put anything warm in it. We have even put frozen water bottles in the freezer to help.

We do not have high/normal/low - just on/off. It is a 3 way (AC/DC/propane) and the camper is a 2004.

I don't think the temp outside has an effect, because we have had the same prob in October.

 Do they need to be charged?

BTW - are you coming back?

Does it work well on AC??
Do you run it on propane or DC when driving?
I run mine on propane when away from home, and I have a thermostat setting of 1-5 I think.

I'll drop in from time to time............................I'll send you guys a PM:D

If it is just not staying cold when you are driving the flame must be blowing out or blowing around enough to not heat properly. But sounds more like you need to clean the burner blow it out with air and check your orfice. My fridge seemed to be burning ok but would barely get cold, worked when I was plugged into 120v.Cleaned and the flame was barely visable better but I could hear it burning better and thats all it took.

X2 on this one. The burner get full of rust and junk. If it works good on AC then I'll bet this is the problem.

Run on DC while driving, but make sure you are plugged into vehicle charging system
X2, we had the same setup in our old motorhome, and if you switch it to DC when driving (if properly hooked up) will just run off the trucks system, no worries as the alternator will keep things going. Just remember to switch back to propane when you stop.

Get one of those little Honda generators, they are powerful, quiet and very efficient, cools of quick when you get to where you wanna be.

Try getting a large enough inverter and wire it from the truck system to run the fridge while traveling.

The non-adjustable fridges still have a thermistor inside. It is the flat plastic thingy with the wire on it attached to the fins inside the fridge part (not the freezer). You can get a certain amount of temp adjustment by moving the thermistor to the top or bottom of the fin. I fiddle-farted with my fridge quite a bit then just replaced the control board with a unit from Dinosaur Electronics. Cheaper than a factory board and has a temp adjustment.....and a warrantee. http://www.dinosaurelectronics.com/

you need to clean the burner, it gets all rusty and stuff our motor home is a 89 and it does the same thing.. after you clean it should run just fine...
