Trouble Sleeping...Need recommendations

I once in a great while have a hard time sleeping mainly when i cant put the next days work out of my mind. I found that a hot shower and a benadryl oftin takes care of it. Im not sure if its habbit forming or not might be somthing to look into.

It always helps me to actually get up out of bed and do something - the longer I lay in bed staring at the ceiling the worse off I am. If i get up and go downstairs to the couch and read a book or do some housework I can shut my mind down and get back to sleep.

dont usually have a problem going to sleep but staying asleep is the problem i wake up 6 to 8 times a night. well mattress i on pretty old not sure so ordered a new simmons mattress and hopefully that will solve my problem. also tylenol pm works for me if i know i need to sleep all night but if you dont sleep like atleast 6 hours getting up can be a little groggy

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm plenty active, I play pick up games of bball 4 mornings a week at 6 and lift and do cardio after work almost every night, in addition to working all day, but have just had trouble falling asleep and staying there. I think I'm going to try the Tylenol PM tonight and see if it works.

On a serious note, Had a sleeping problem for a year and half due to post-concussion syndrome. A lot of the advice that has been given is great. Physical activity helps, watch what you eat or drink starting about 4 hours before lights out. No caffeine ( soda and chocolate) in that time. Fishing does help (IO). Good luck be careful with sleeping pills I was on prescription pills for about 8mo and got addicted to them my body literly forgot how to fall asleep on its own. Was up for 2 days when i stoped taking them.

When I can't sleep and it is stress induced I go for a ride in my mind.
Seriously, redo a whole ride from the time the suit goes on, through the sled
warm up and then the ride itself. I rarely get too far into it and I'm asleep.

Really? Every time Ive tried that it gets the adrenaline pumping, and then Im wide awake!

Nothing works better than that AM radio broadcast "from somewhere out in the high desert near area 51". Your troubles are gone after listening to the people who call in to this show.

Usually if I can't get to sleep I'll grab a glass of water and pet the dog for a while. Don't do anything brain-intensive (TV, books, counting sheep, radio) and definately don't do any productive work or think about stress-inducing work.

1. I know it's stress induced, but that stresser will be on my mind for a month so I have to get some sleep. -NDFlat...

2. Knock off a piece ......... Roll over and go to sleep.... Works every time >-T-Head

I'm not sure, but these to might be related?

Lately I've been drinking one or 2 beers and it knocked me silly, and I'm sleeping better than when I drink more or none at all. 3 weeks and I'll be drinking like a fish for a week again.

I tried the tylenol pm last night...I slept like a baby.

If the stresser was something as simple as rubbing one off, that would be awesome, but it's a little more complicated...
