Trouble Sleeping...Need recommendations

I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping lately. I know it's stress induced, but that stresser will be on my mind for a month so I have to get some sleep. What do you guys recommend or use? Does anyone use over the counter sleeping pills?

Fishing, long hard days, the colder the better, I slept like a rock lastnight after fishing for 6 hours, standing the whole time in 15 degree weather. I know its colder where you are but that makes it even better like I said.

also..worrying about a thing does nothing to improve it

A large glass of wine helps me.
But it doesn't last long enough.
I will wake up before 4 am when it wears off.

Excercise (not before bedtime) & as stated above, alot of fresh air.

Personally, I would stay away from any sleep aids. I think you can get addicted to them pretty easily and need them to get to sleep after a while.

I have problems sleeping too. Ive found clearing my mind really helps. I tend to overthink everything, so when I go to bed my mind is racing a mile a minute. Find something that relaxes you and clears your mind. TV, reading, etc. Whatever you do though, dont THINK about not being able to sleep. Just lay there and keep your mind clear if you can.

.5mg of Clonezapam 1/2 hour before beddie bye

This works wonders for me and is not addicting. It works by letting you get to the REM stage fast and then wears off in a few hours.

I have had a sleeping issue for years, and once the doc prescribed this, it changed my sleep for the better.......

I went through that stage when I was getting a divorce. I gave in a got a Lunesta prescription. 3 mgs and don't eat anything before bed. You'll get 8 hours of good rest and wake up fine. Alcohol might make you get to sleep quick but it's not a restfull sleep. It's not addictive too.

When it's time for bed, lay on the floor beside your bed (with no pillow or blanket) and try to go to sleep. When you get very uncomfortable and cold, hop into bed and hopefully, it's lights out.

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning it's the best they are going to feel all day" - Frank Sinatra

I dont sleep much either. I find relaxing works the best. Couple drinks, hot shower.

What works for me is getting a good workout/exercise during the day, vitamin B (stress vitamin) and a Melatonin pill. Hello morning.

I Put on a really good movie I've seen several times, then I don't have to keep my eyes open because I know whats going on, I just listen with my eyes closed, It distracts my mind and I go right to sleep.

I used to lay in a relaxed state while breathing deeply and clearing my mind. Now that I have kids I just drink alot!!! No seriously I have a problem sleeping when working out of town. I usually try to read and if that doesn't work then I will get a little buzz going and read. Works every time.

I used to have a hard time sleeping more than 4hrs a night. Did alot of Research and for the most part I sleep like a baby unless I throw what I've learned out the window or my sleep routine is thrown off several hours. A recent Article in Maxim also sums it up pretty well (January 08 pg 101).

Do not do anything on your bed other than sleep or bone on it. Do not lounge on it throughout the day etc. Train you mind to associate your bed with sleep or extra caricular activities only.

Buy a new pillow once a year.

Sych yourself out. Breath Deeply and then start to talk out loud about a soothing image like recent vacation etc. Count backward by 3's from 300 (youll be so bored you'll pass out).

Diet:
Add whole wheat bread as it releases insulin to speed up intake of Tryptophan (Turkey Drug). And Bananas contain sleep inducing Melatonin, Serotonin, and Muscle relaxing magnesium. Alcohol may make you pass out quicker but the sleep quality sucks. "The light, crappy sleep you gete with alcohol in your system is half the cause of hangovers".

Bright light- The second you turn on bright lights, your brain thinks it's morning and stops producing melatonin. Also flashing lights degrade sleep. If you need to set the tv to goto sleep, set the sleep timer.

Knocker Outers!
Ambien: Pros-Knocks most people out faster thatn a rolling pin to the temple.
Cons-Not great for Toss and turners who have a tough time staying asleep (only lasts 2-3hrs) Some claim they're hooked.

TylenolPM: Pros: might alleviate that postdinner, or headache
Cons: may have little efficacy on sleep or sleep quality, may cause liver problems if taken while boozing.

Lunesta: Pros-Goes the distance for a full 5-6 hours of uninterrupted pillow time.
Cons: not Ideal for people who have a difficult time GETTING to sleep. (starts out slowly but finishes strong)

I myself If I need I buy over the counter Malatonin for about $3 for 100 pills. I get awesome sleep like the kind when you were a kid with cool trippy dreams. But link any sleep aid you shouldn't take them for more than 2 weeks to avoid dependancy. They usually kick in in about 30minutes.

FWIW
When I can't sleep and it is stress induced I go for a ride in my mind.
Seriously, redo a whole ride from the time the suit goes on, through the sled
warm up and then the ride itself. I rarely get too far into it and I'm asleep.
