Triton Aluminum Trailer frame cracks

I have access to both steel and aluminum trailers and I won't even go near the aluminum. Everyone seems to think that they are the greatest thing ever, but they are notorious for breaking.

Just go back and read Lane's column on "My Trailering Nightmare" in SnoWest. There is frost heave in Island Park that has been the end of LOTS of aluminum tongues. So you add an extra 150 lbs to your towing, it's about the same as taking your kid with you in your pickup. Big deal.

Steel may show the rust a bit more, but if you go with a powdercoated or galvanized steel unit, they hold up much better than the painted ones. I just have seen way too many problems with the aluminum fatigueing and cracking. I'd much rather see a bend than a crack!

When I bought my last enclosed, my dealer told me the same thing.
