Trask Low Boost kit Nytro

Just wondering if anyone had run this turbo kit before and there experiances with it?

I have an opportunity to get one of these kits for a great deal but am a little worried since I don't see much about them on here.

Thanks for any advice!

Mark

I believe they are the same kit alpine sells as there low boost rear mount..(i may be mistaken, but thats what i was told)

also i have a few of these new in box i am selling in the classifieds section.

With the variety of good low boost kits out there(alpine, mcx, push, mountain performance) I don't think I would bother with a trask. Eventhough it's a good price, you know there's a saying "you get what you pay for". Trask is a harley turbo builder not a snowmobile builder. Stick with a builder who's bread and butter is snowmobile turbos. There's a reason this kit is so cheap and the mcx low boost kits are selling like hot cakes. Just sayin.

well i have one of these kits ant have upgraded to a 240 on it....runs awesome. IT is currently for sale and I have pics of it in the yammaha sections. I know a part owner in trask and he really stands behind his product. The kit is flawless so far....

the kit is not actually cheap>>(last year alpine was selling theres for over 5gs and trask is listed @ 5300.00.. thats actually the most expensive low boost prices) and if it is the same kit as alpine is using then i am assuming its going to be top notch.. plus i don't think the poster is looking for reasons why not to use the kit based on the fact that MPI and MCX are good kits, he already knows this.. he is interested in people who ride/ or have rode trask and or alpine pump gas rear mounts.

thanks CSCHERER.. I am not sure what people opinion is but my thought is that most of these low boost turbos are so close to the same(pretty much just copies with little tweeks depending on the brand) that for the most part its not the kit that makes the difference but the kit being set up properly thats going to make the difference...

thoughts?

thought that i should add that i am the guy he would be getting the kit off of.. and i am not someone trying to make money on the deal.. kirmac is one of my main riding partners.. i too am debating installing the kit on my sled.. im very confident in it for the reasons stated above.. but some extra re-assurance is always good..

as for trask being a harley turbo builder.. u do realize MCX makes side by side and quad turbos?? and i believe BD does the same? all that means is they probably have a good understanding of turbos.

alpine low boost kit is a trask kit, they run really well & they are a little more but they come with a inter cooler.

Mine works very well at 15# boost and a boost it controler. The dobeck fuel box that came with mine was junk so it needed to be upgraded.Other than that it is well engineered.

Hey each to there own. I hope for your sake kirmac that I am wrong and you have good luck with your kit. If it is indeed a alpine kit that would make me feel a little better, however my buddy that works for mcx said alpine was buying I believe oil pumps from the mcx kits for there alpine kits so I would do my homework before buying. Also if it is essentially a Alpine kit why not just buy the alpine kit and skip the middleman. To me if a guy is having problems the guys living in salmon arm probably have a lot more snowmobile knowledge than the guys living in arizona. Eventhough it's a totally different animal my dealer bought a trask for their e-tech last year and eventually took it off after a half a season of problems. Once again good luck with whatever you do I don't mean to screw ridehard out of a sale. I'm just giving my take.

again, not screwing me out of a sale.. We both are deciding if we want to run this kit.. if we dont run this kit we wont be running anything.. deal is very cheap..

Hey ridehard & kirmac come follow me around in whistler for a day or 2 and you can see how well the trask kit compares to the MCX & powderlites kits. The nice part about this kit is you can crank the boost to what ever you want with a better fuel system and head shim. The one nice part about MCX is the oil pump The disadvantage is when you get bored of 180 hp it costs a lot to upgrade.

I have a buddy that has the Trask turbo kit on his 2008 Nytro, he loves it. The only problem he has had with it is the oil pump for the turbo kept over heating and burning out because of the placement of where the Trask kit locates it. Now im not sure if Trask has a remedy for this issue yet, but thats the only problem he has had. I personally went with the MCX low boost kit mainly because of the altitude compensated mod box. Trask runs a manual boost controller. My 2 cents, if its a great deal you probably wont be disappointed, just look into the oil pump location issue.

interesting about the oil pump>> U would think thats a pretty easy issue to fix? do you know where its located? and in comparison, where does mcx install theres?

MCX mounts right onto the motor behind the the oil reservoir, into the PTO I believe its called. I think the oil pump on the Trask kit is/was near the turbo and thats why it was prone to overheating. I haven't talked with my buddy in awhile about his sled, but I do think that Trask is aware of the problem and has it fixed. But im not sure. My buddy went through 3 oil pumps before they figured it out. He bought one when they first produced them for the Nytro. If I remember correctly he now has it up above the oil reservoir and has had no problems since. Last year raced up the drag race hill on boulder in revy, mine would pull slightly on him. He upgraded to a 162" track and Apex springs in the rear, I was still running the factory crap maverick 153" track stock rear suspension. He was running 7lbs of boost, I was running 6.5-7lbs of boost. I have been told I should be pushing 8-9lbs at that altitude. So we'll see how they both run this year.

hey all....I am running this kit as noted above in a different post. Alpine did relocate my pump near the turbo to some where on the front of the sled. I would have to look to see, but you can sure here it work now....lol....

I can honestly say this is a great turbo kit. I have had zero issues and it goes like snot. 15lbs and no issues and you can upgrade later on with the intercooler. Which was the deciding factor prior to the purchase. I am glad I did because 2 rides on the low boost and it was back for a head shim....life begins at 10lbs and only gets better. Trust me boosted sleds are highly addicitive. I have had a couple decent offers on my nytro, but when you start building them and get involed and see what the sled can do at 10 - 12lbs of boost then at 15lbs, its really hard to give up that power....especially when your buddies cat has to run 15plus to keep up with you at 12.

I went with alpine because of location and that he runs this kit in all his sleds and his rep in the industry.

Buy the kit you will not be dissappointed....

thanks and the kits we are looking at come with intercooler.. i was told with the oil pump that to replace with mcx style is very expensive.. that its just as easy to keep a spare one on you in case

just wanted to update that i picked my kit up, very impressed with all parts and instructions that came with kit.. also worth noting that the guy i bought the kit from sold be a upgraded oil pump to solve the above problem for an extra hundred.. should have install mostly done by end of next week

It all comes down to a good fuel controller. I'm sure with good fueling and a head shim, you could run 17-18#'s all day, every day with that kit. I rode a low boost Trask kit at 10#'s on a Nytro, it was a blast to ride with stock compression. It had waaaay more snort than I expected. I'd take a hard look at Boost-It if you want to run higher hp. I cant comment on the oil pump, but I'm sure the MCX pump would work great.
