I am looking for advise, I have a Canon HV 30 Mini DV HD video camera, what should I be using for software for transferring to my PC and to be able to edit? I would like to transfer to Youtube or Photobucket etc. I am picking up an HDMI cable tomorrow to transfer, would like to pick up software if necessary. Any help would be appreciated. thx

Does your computer have an hdmi input? I`m pretty sure that you can not transfer to pc using hdmi. I have an hv30 and you will need to use firewire.Does your computer have firewire(IEEE/1394)? The usb will only transfer photos captured on your mini sd card.
As far as software goes there are lots out there. I would search around a bit and download the free trials and see which one you like best. Just my 2cents.

Oh ya if your computer has a firewire port check to see if its 4 pin or 6 pin. HV30 end is 4 pin.

What OS you running?

My computer does have an HDMI port. I've got a 4 pin Firewire port, same as the Canon, I'm running windows vista on this laptop. thx

HDMI would be for hooking up a display (HDTV) to your laptop. You need to use the firewire to import video from your miniDV camcorder.

You can use the windows movie maker software that should be included with VISTA versions other than "basic".

Buy a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire ( IEEE1394 ) cable and download via windoze movie maker. Geez Duke, you should stick to poopchuter milkshakes.... :)

Thanks for the helpl, my computer does have the Windows Movie Maker, I was just using the wrong cord, I'll pick up the Firewire tomorrow.

I wonder if Zala's will add Poopshooter Shakes to the bar menu? :face-icon-small-ton

Most posts I've read on several sites confirm what I'm seeing, that Vista and HD video editing does not mix too well.

There's an excellent thread in TT (thumpertalk) in the dirbike section on the GoPro HD, lots of info that might help.
