Whats the big difference in the older style trail tanks to the newer ones? If you looked at them side x side what would let you tell the difference? I ask cause im lookin to get one and came across a used one that is right in my price range. He thinks its the older style but unsure. Are the older ones still good?

Installed you won't be able to tell. Pop open the right side panel and look at the two coolant lines coming from the tunnel cooler. If they look squished against the corner of the head than it's the older style. The updated tank provided a lot more room for the coolant lines. Again if it's the older style the fuel level sensor will be tight against the lower part of the steering gate(aluminum square tube), the updated one has room between the sensor and gate.

If it's off the sled it should be easy to tell because there will be an indentation where the coolant lines go. I would urge you to save and get the newer style, I've had both and the newer one fits a lot better.

the newer one also has more of a cut out for the throttle cable 90 as well. Old version not worth installing IMO. My new one also come with heat reflective material on the belly

Buy the new one. It is worth the money. Great product and company to deal with.

If you are running a MTX the old style will not fit because of the extra heat exchanger.

i hear of lots of leaks even with the new one,,i'm stayn away..seen my buddies leak and ruin a weekend riding

Had old one. Was extremely tight and Huge PITA to install. New one nearly fell into place.

I have several miles on mine and it is almost two seasons old. No leaks and no complaints. And I hear Seth is only making them better.

Put one on my sled Gasket was to big for the whole where my fuel pump goes and it ended up shredding the gasket they gave me. I had to use the old gasket with crap load of silcone. Eventually, stopped the leak and just to put the record straight even the new ones are a little tempramental to put in but can be done. Also, another tip for everyone the this tank is NOT compatibale with a skinz protective seat.

I've been running my Trail Tank since the spring of '08 and had no leaks or melting problems. It was a PITA to install since it did not want to slide forward. The other issue is the screws didn't line up with the shroud holes but I just enlarged the holes. Sounds like the new tanks are better in the fit and finish dept.

Thanks for the heads up that it won't work with the Skinz seat. Guess i'll just keep carrying extra gas with me.
