Traeger Grills

How many people use these grills? I just purchased one and am now looking for tips, tricks, and recipes.

So far I have only cooked steaks, spareribs, chicken, and u-bake pizza on it.

best grill I've ever owned....:beer;

Ditto.... I recommend experimenting with diferent pellot combinations...

One thing I have found, it is very easy to over cook... Takes a bit to get use to, unlike a traditional grill.

Good Luck and Enjoy...... Some of the best steaks and venison (sp) I have ever had were cooked on my traeger...:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

-experiment with spices...lots of spices..
-apple juice + squirt bottle = best friend
-dont turn it up cause you are ready for it to be done then head to the bar for a 'couple'
-be patient
-once you get the coveted pink smoke ring in the meat you are good to go (easier to see in lighter meat like pork and chicken
-after you smoke/cook something put it in the fridge or whatever to cool it down all the way then re heat it....pores open up and retain the smoke also driving it deeper into the meat
-always throw the meat on at room temperature
-Get an instant read thermometer and a traditional meat thermometer that you can keep in while grilling
-Another thing to watch is that when you take a larger chunk of meat off it's still going to cook a bit. This one will come with experience and may be tough to judge
-never cut into the meat to see if its 'done' use your thermometers they dont lie
-last but not least...if your lookin you aint cookin!

buy the digital thermometer with 3ft. probe wire. Put it in the meat, sit back and have a couple beers. Don't open the lid 42 times to see if it is burning. Hard to burn things on this grill. It will cook slower than what you are used to. One other thing, buy the digital thermostat on the grill not the hi,med,lo thermostat

The digital thermostat is the one thing i made sure to get. So far, everything I have cooked has been very good. Been using alot of the traeger seasonings.

I've had them for years and can't do without it. I've done ribs, prime rib, brisket, turkey, pizza, cornbread, you name it. It's basically a wood-fired oven, so feel free to try anything you would do in an oven. It's not a 550 degree, direct heat grill, so keep your gas grill for steaks, burgers, veggies, etc...

As far as pellets go, I can't tell a whole lot of difference between them except for how they burn. Some burn hotter/faster, while others are cold enough that the fire can go out when on "smoke".

Get one of these!!!! They are a great product, and the company personnel are great people. Known them for a while, both personally and proffesionally, they won't steer you wrong.
