Trading in turbo'd sleds

Are there any dealers out there that are familiar with turbo sleds and not afraid to take them in on a trade(after inspecting of course) for a new sled???

I'd think you'd have better luck returning the sled to stock and selling the turbo separately, or selling the entire thing privately.

I think this is a great question. What would a dealer even offer for a turbo'd sled with like 1500-2000 miles? I've never really thought of that. People must be trading them in somewhere. Seems like they couldn't screw ya too bad on a trade if its a well done/maintained turbo build

I've looked into trading in other sleds before with lots of goodies but they won't budge on the trade-in value. Not sure if the turbo sled fits into this category or not. It's funny that they won't give extra money for trade-in but they will sure sell the heck out of all the extra's included when looking for a used sled.

Let us know what you find out.

I just thought I would see what other guys were getting for there trades on their turbo's. I'm thinking about a new Pro or E-tech. I won't give the name of the dealer, but on an over the phone conversation, they said they wouldn't be able to give me more than $2k over trade in value. I even told the guy I would let them test drive it too! My sled has 1600 miles, only 600 boosted, with tons of extras, including timbersled suspension. But he has a similar sled, but it's an 09, for sale at $12000. To me, that looks like about $4000 mark up on the trade price they told me. Little bit of a rip off.

That's a tough call. I guess it depends on how bad you want a stock sled with no accessories. Now that you know what they will offer for a trade-in, you can try selling it outright for a little bit higher price than trade-in. Good luck in whatever you end up doing.

Its a big risk for a dealer to bring in a sled like a turbo and sell it quickly. Those kind of sleds you have to find the right buyer for a sled like that. It is more than likely a turbo will sit around a dealership for quite a while before anyone buys it. Then it will have to keep be marked down until someone does buy it. That dealer is just protecting his own wallet at that point.

$2k over retail seems pretty good to me on a mod sled. Just my .02

I agree, I won't buy a modified sled, I have seen too many people buy modified sleds and never be able to get them to run properly. If you modify it you should keep it.

And this time of year, a lot of people have already made their sled purchases for the year. He needs to consider if he needs to sit on it, store it and service it over the summer.

He also needs to consider that if he sells it, he needs some profit margin to discount it for the next guy (who is probably as interested in paying full asking price as you are). Also leave some cushion if the thing blows up while loading it onto the next guy's truck, AND of course.....to make some money on it. Maybe you could grind a little more trade-in out of him, but is another $500 or $1000 going to do it for you? Or try to sell it yourself....kinda screwed there.

I work at a car dealership, and it's the same story when guys show up with decked out trucks to trade in vs stock trucks. The mods really don't increase the value greatly, even tho they cost a lot up-front.

realistically the trade in value is not increased by mods. from a dealer stand point it is 10 times harder to sell a used sled that has any mods done to it at all compared to a stock sled. then when you mention turbo it gets even harder to sell. we usually give 1-2k over book for a good set up turbo sled as long as it has been well taken care of. as stated above it takes knowing the right customer to sell a used turbo sled. just an fyi we sold a 2009 pump gas turbo m1000 w/ under 1000 miles this year for around 9k. it was traded in on a 2011 m8. used turbos through a dealership are hard to flip, they take time and we usually end up making less margin on them than we do on anything else
