track tension

whats the best way to set the track tension? 07 m1000 162 with 2.5 challenger. i put the bdx 2 wheel kit on and the track centered but want to make sure i get the tension right.

The AC shop manual says to pull down with 20 pounds of force on the track. Any easy way I've found to do that is to place two 10 pound barbell weights between the rails on the center of the track. The weights provide a nice consistent and repeatable force for measuring the track deflection.

I loosen the track till it ratchets at the top of a climb, then I tighten it 2 full revolutions. I've been pretty happy with the results that way. The 20 lb style seemed too tight to me.

I adjusted it the same way but I only went 1 ½ turns. Worked great. Started with about 3 inches of sag when I lifted it off the ground.

I agree with the as loose as possible. I just have a friend ride beside me and give it a visual to make sure the track isn't flopping or whipping on the top ideler wheels >>>>.

On that note I'll chime in on this!

A super loose track can rob HP as it wraps around the rear wheels and also lets the paddles fold easier under load. Especially on the single ply tracks like the Power Claw! Also a loose track increases the likelihood of stabbing a window.

Too loose can be bad for performance! On the Power Claw I like to set it to Cat standards.:face-icon-small-hap and check it after the first few rides, it'll stretch!

I'll throw some more chips on the table here !! On the 2 M-series sleds I have the front drive sprockets have a very large tooth sticking through the window of the track. If you run loose enough to ratchet one of these you are going to have a very big problem !!! >>>>.

Too loose of a track will definatley cause problems, Buy an anti stab kit if you plan on a loose track or you will lawn dart when the rails decide to stab the track. NOT FUN when back in the nowheres 20 + miles I have done 2 tracks like this.
