Track swap and d&r on d8 ?

Has anyone tried a challenger extreme instead of series 5.1? How about drop and roll on iq? fastrax, holz or something else? I dont know what to think about 5.1 track. I know it does not brake 4 sh*t on hard snow and I am starting to think it doesnt climb well in hard snow either. Anyones first hand input would be great.

i did a d&r and installed a camo extreme on my 07 iq. i also cut the tunnel down to go from a 155 to a 144. couldn't be happier, will not go back to a longer track and definitely will not go back to a polaris 5.0 or 5.1 track. over all i'm very happy with my set up but keep in mind, any d&r is a MASSIVE amount of work. many hours of your time. hope this was what you were looking for?

how would you know what a 5.1 is like if you had an 07

thanx

I know how much work a d&r can be, both holz and fastrax include templates and that is easier than some. Does the 5.1 out perform a chall extreme in soft deep snow? How about this front cooler removal? no problem?

I'm a die hard Holz fan but when it comes to the D&R kit the Fastraxx kit is second to none. Strong and about as easy as a D&R can be.

I noticed that fastrax moves the cc a lot further than holz. Are they movin the jackshaft into the tunnel and holz is not. Who has removed their front cooler?, not talkin about old iq front radiator, but the front cooler in the driver area of the tunnel. What about runnin extros insted of polaris's goofy 3 driver vibratin mess!

I done the Fastrax d&r on my 08 dragon and the kit was great alot of work but great . Can I tell a differance , I don't know . would I do it again , no when I make changes that takes that much work I like to tell a differance . The thing I did notice was the ice build up in the front of the tunnel after the d&r . Just my 2cents

ice build-up?

Does the ice build up because of the front heat exchanger being eliminated? Did you stick with the same drivers and track? What drop brackets did you use? got any pics?

I went to the 2.5 Challanger extreme to replace the 5.1 stock track on my 08 800 Dragon and love it. As far as I can tell it works better in all snow conditions. Had to replace my track when it tore.

good

Thats what I wanted to hear, my new chall extreme is in the mail. I ride in the cascades mostly, and I have watched that track kick a** for years. Had to try one.

sorry taking so long to replie I haven't look on this forum for bit . I have the dragon 163 so it didn't have the heat exchaner from the get go and I never had ice build up before I d&r the chain case . Still have the same stock track but I did put avid drivers on it but I done that long before the d&r . I like the other mods that I have done better like the pipe , reeds ,intake , venting and gearing . A track trade might be a good thing depending on the snow you ride in for the fluffy powder I ride in here in Idaho the maverick or the powder claw works about the best . Hope this helps

Eliminating the front heat exchanger does nothing but improve the 155's. Less brake vibration, less snow build up & runs the same temp. If ur going to eliminatine the exchanger buy the plate from polaris for a 163 instead of holz. Plastic instead of aluminum & much cheaper. Avid drivers also work very well. Take that goofy three driver set up off & throw it away. With the avids you can run your track looser & no ice build up.

so do the 155s have a heat exchanger that the 163s do not? I thought they were the same. I have a 163 dragon and it has a front heat exchanger.

The biggest reason we produce the drop and roll is to get the STEEP approach angle down so the sled will trench less....allows slower ground speeds with less stucks and they jump on top of the snow quicker.
I run my turbo 163 Dragon on the hardpack with zero heating issues(no front cooler)...
We build a 1 1/8 hex conversion drive shaft for those of you looking to eliminate the ice collecting and failure prone hydro formed shaft...also gives you access to a wider range of drivers for track swaps!
challenger 2 1/2 extreme track gets my nod as best all around track available.

Hey Curt what is the price on your drive shaft conversion?
