Track Speed

03 800 Escape. Losing track speed in powder. Starting to think it is a clutch shifting problem. Usually on any kind of hill in powder, it will start out pulling hard. After a bit it wil start sound burbly or bogey, but my RPM don't change. Hitting around 8000. I also notice it seems the track speed drops considerably. I am starting to think it is a clutch problem.

Thanks for any advice.

What are you running in your clutches? What elevation? Are you sure you are not just jetted a little on the fat side? Mine likes to do just that when it is runnning on the fat edge.

Riding elevation is 6-7000 maybe a little higher. Was thinking it was also jetting was tinkering it yesterday all day with it. Plugs are looking of a chocolate brown. From when I started messing with jetting to when I was starting to think clutching, I dropped 8 jet sizes. and it seemed to make no difference. I have a white with red stripe for primary spring, I think the weights are 10-62 I might be wrong on that. Team Secondary roller clutch with a red with black stripe spring. helix can either be a 58-40-46-er or a 58-38-46-er. I even thought it might be water but I tapped off the head light thinking that is the only way it can get in. It also doesn't seem to make a different

You don't mention a pipe so I am assuming that you are running a stock pipe? I run lower elevation than you do. About 0-4000' here. We run stockers with 390-400 mians here. That would be about 350's ? at yours. Try going to a black/purple secondary spring. I have done that to several edge rmks with great results. I run the 40deg finish angle at our elevation, but at yours I think I would go to the 38deg. Then again I am also a big guy and have to have a good backshift or I end up with issues quicker than the lightwieght guys. Also make sure to put the delrin washers in there if you have not already. What gearing are you running? Stock was 19/39. 19/43 works awesome in that sled!

and here I thought you just had issues..didnt know it was weight related....I have ridden tims sled....it rips..you wont go wrong with his clutching/gearing....:beer;:beer;

Sorry forgot to mention about that. I have SLP twin pipes, SLP heads, and SLP air horn kit. I also have eliminated the Speed and installed flo rites there and down below where the normal air intake is. I have never heard of the delrin washers before could you tell me about them? And I do have the 19/39gears have thoughts on changing those to 19/43. When I pulled my secondary apart. I did notice a fair bit of depris inside. I noticed the rollers are looking kind of rough. Might this cause a problem?

Cool. We are running almost the same setup then. I too have slp race twins and highflow,flowrites, slp heads 3-6000',ect.. I also have union bay porting. Believe it or not, I am running 370 mains at 0-4000" and am still on the fat side. That would put you more like 340-350's.

Clean your secondary out good. The delrin washers are just a thin plastic washer. They come in packs of 3 from most places. Some sell them per each. I put one on each end of the spring, and one between the spring cup and the clutch half. They act like bearing so the spring does not bind in there when the clutch faces twist as they open and close. They work much smooter with the washers in there. I would also suggest an slp green/pink primary spring. Really wakes up the bottom end, and helps it to backshift as well at slower speeds. If you are running stock drivers, the 19/43 is a huge improvement. I just went with 7tooth 3" pitch drivers in mine as I put a 2.5 camo-x under mine this fall. It really came on strong down low, but seemed to lack a little higher up so I went back to the 19/39 and am happy with that. I am running 66 gram weights, but do to the elevation, I would think you are correct with your 62's.

I guess I am not too far off with the 330's I ended with yesterday. Will see if I can find some delrin washers up here in the great not so white north. Thanks for all the info. Hopefully I can get it to work finally. Been fighting with this since the biginning of last year.

You are in the right ballpark for sure with the 330's. Now for sure change out your secondary spring to a black/purple. That made a world of difference in mine and a couple of other edges I've had hands in. 19/43, and the sllp green/pink in the primary. I would set the helix in the 38 ramp for your elevation. Pm me and let know how it turns out for you when you get a chance to run it. Or if you have any more questions.
