Track replacement suggestions?

Only got to ride with Robbie and the 3" for 1 day and only spent a short amount of time on it. IMO they are both a huge step above the 163's.
I didn't get enough time on the 3" to see the pluses and minuses....the 2.5 works great in all conditions.

Cool. Thanks alot. I will probably use a 2.5 then and hook a little more power to it to get up the hill a bit better.

There is no downside to a 174 by 16 by 2.5 that I notice only huge upside plus it's real easy to do. Have an xp with a 3" as well ...a lot more work and does affect handling somewhat. Will it go further up the hill?? OH Yeah!!! Is it as much fun to ride? No. Your taking Your life in Your hands crossing water with a ported track.

I see. So how much better does the 3 climb?? And by affecting handling what do you mean??

Has anyone done side by side comparisons with ported and unported tracks?? Why is porting so popular if it doesnt work on the mountain?? Pros and Cons??

Yes, I had a 04 800 that I ported, and previous to that was a Poo Ultra/156 ported. They both dragged their butt in the water, but you could cross ....that was with 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" holes three across.

The new 2010 Doo track will have huge square holes. What did the 09's come with?

Ya my 08 doesnt cross water for poo. LOL But what is the difference between ported and unported in trench depth?? Climbing ability and trackspeed in different track speeds??

Whats the difference?

Everyone has a different way of comparing things. In our group the xp's include one stock ported 163, 2- 174 by 21/2" and a 154 guy that was adament about keeping a "short" track because He believed it would carve through the trees easier than our long tracks and He felt it would also be easier to turn out at the top of a highmark. He purchased a camo extreme 154 by 16 by 21/2' unported due to His aprehension about crossing water. I must say His sled works exceptionally well- I've never seen another 154 that comes close to his. He was wrong about the tree and turnout thing by His judgement after riding My 174 by 16 by 21/2'. He is right about crossing water. The comparison I'll give You refers to highmarking. If You think Oroville and Omak are close -Oroville being a stock 154 {not My buddies} and Omak being a stock 163 than a 174 by 21/1' would be at least [conservative] Wenatchee and by 3" would be in Ellensburg. The 3" track does make it more difficult to lay over and carve with and it's slightly harder to turn out with at the top of a hill. [doesn't happen to often] Don't know why maybe the inertia of turning a 70lb track. The sled loses it's "I'm superman" no matter how stupid I drive it feel. Poeple port their track for 2 important reasons..1 less rotating mass equals higher track speed and 2 anytime Your sled loses wieght it's a good thing.

I see you know my neck of the woods. Where are you from?? I ported my old mod sled track...lost like a pound. Not sure if it was worth the work or not. So you are saying that a 174 2.5 will be atleast as much better as a 163 is over a 154?? And a 3 in 174 is about that much better again on a hill but becomes harder to handle??

The only thing I will say about ported tracks is that it seems that mine packs up alot with the heavy Washington snow. I know that there have been heavy powder days that the porting cost me track speed. Maybe not in revy snow or other really light powder but here, in our snow I dont really think the porting works that well. Opinions??

Have a good friend in Yakima

I'm from northern B.C. Get down to see Him when I can. Going to a 174 by21/2" is much more of a dramatic improvement than going from a 154 to a 163. Going to a 3" on top of that only gains you about another 30% above what You just did so It's not nearly as drastic a change. Hope this helps.

Ride with robbie a few times a year. I ride a 07 xrs with a slp kit that runs very well and all I can say is His stock xp with the 3" will go where I cannot unless I track poach:mad:. My next new sled will have the 3" with out a doubt as witnessed on several occasions. May be more work toinstall but deffinately worth it by all means

xp174,

would you suggest then the that 162x16x3 might be the best of both worlds?

XP174, if you were going to build a boosted xp, 10 pounds of boost...what track would you use?? 174 by 2.5?? Or 174 by 3?? I like the throw-it-around feel from a stock 163. Will a 3 inch mess with how that feels??
