Like there's not enough track question threads...................but, I have a 97 indy 500 with a 121"x 15x .75". I want to go to a 144 with 2" paddles. can it be done?? what mod's besides the track extensions will I need??

Anything can be done

The rail extensions will take care of the length addition but you also need to look at the height of the paddles and make sure there is enough clearance in the tunnel for the 2" paddles versus the stock .75". There are kits available to drop and roll your chaincase to create the clearance if its not already there. Once you have the clearance for the paddles and the length taken care of, it just performance issues with more track. You can adjust to your liking with chaincase gearing and also with clutch adjustments. Good luck with your project. My RMK didn't come with a 151" track but I sure would never go back now. I love it!!!!!!! Best money I ever spent on a upgrade for a sled.

yeah, I agree with you on the engine performance part of it, I'm just wondering how well the 500 would pull a 144 with 2" paddles and if the clutch would hold up.

Hey Everyone!
Been here a few times and thought I'd jump on in!

Don't know if 2" paddles will fit. I put a 1.5" track on mine and there is less than 1/2 in of clearance.

And eventually you will run outta HP :(

****************************************

I bought an older '96 Polaris Indy 500 Trail snowmobile a couple of years ago for about $700. Its the 488cc fan-cooled engine ~56 HP

It was mostly stock (except for an Aaen pipe) which really sucked in deep powder or slush while ice fishing or out having some fun at 8000 - 10,000ft.

So I fixed the broken hood, extended the suspension with TracksUSA (121"-136"), put a 1.5" powder track on, rejetted (190 mains), dropped 2 grams in clutch weights (48gms -46grms), new EPI clutch springs both primary (white) and secondary (yellow), gutted the air box, and installed some ski skins. Had to put a fancier windshield on too

The project is complete!

What fun it is for just a few hundred dollars!

Here's how mine goes thru the powder...
