track freezing/locking up

I have an 01 MM700 that my girlfriend rides. I pulled it out of the garage a couple days ago to put it on the trailer for this weekend and noticed that the track was locked up. I tried to free it but it wouldn't budge. I ended up putting an old belt on it, putting it on a stand and using the throttle to free the track. It didn't move the track until it was almost wide open, smelled the belt burning but it freed the track. I had to run it like this for a minute or so before I could rotate the track by hand. Looked everything over and couldn't figure out why it was locked up.

When I got the sled to the mountain this morning (2 days later) I had the same issue when I unloaded it. Had to ride it in the parking lot for a couple minutes before I could feel that the track had free'd itself again. Sled ran fine all day after this.

Anyone have any idea where to start looking for the problem?

Have you checked the oil in the chain case.Maybe it has some water in it and is freezing up.Just a thought

Don't think thats the problem but I'll check it. It was in a heated garage so I don't think this is cold related illness.

I had one in the shop that was similar, and it was the primary clutch that was worn,it could close the clutch properly.Pull the cap off and check the rollers and the ramps.Turning the track with the belt on when cold is always really tough,so don't be mislead by thinking that's the problem.

Thanks, I hadn't thought it being clutch related. I guess I was more focused on the track not turning. That was the kind of advise I was looking for, I'll take a look at it tonight.

so does that mean you checked and it wasn't your parking brake? I was being serious, just because the lever wasn't flipped over, doesn't mean it wasn't hanging on the pads. Hot and cold cycles in the garage, can cause condensation, and rust the pads to the rotor. And if the parking brake doesn't hold now, then it was probably on.

I figured thats what you were talking about. I got a couple pms from people saying take the brake off and check to see if a tree branch was stuck in it. Not really the kind of advice I was hunting for. I did check to make sure that cable was moving on the brake and I locked the brakes and checked to see if they were on. I think its either in the clutch or possablily a driveshaft bearing. Thanks for the help.
