Toyo tires

What are your opinions on these tires? I'm looking to get a set for my 08 Duramax. I'm looking at the open country MT, or the M55's. Anybody with any experiance with these tires care to comment on them? How many miles do you get on average out of a set. There's no lift, so I'll be running 285-75-16. I might be able to get 295's under it. I'll check when I get there.

I'm curious as well since I'm in the tire market yet again. Also thinking maby hanhook or cooper

I've had the Open Country A/T and thought they were a good tire ... they are a very heavy-duty A/T tire, I think generally moreso than other comparable A/T tires. We run those on a lot of oilfield trucks, the M55's on the heavier service rigs ... oddly enough the only one of them I ever popped was on a half-ton I had driving down the highway. Lol.

I've never cared for mud tires in any trim so I can't really comment on the M/T's.

Tires

M55 is a good tire and is a better choice IMHO. Check out the Goodyear Duratrac. After years of making so-so product they have a winner that works and poeple actually want to buy it!

The M55 is a very durable tire. We would run this on our krummy's (crew truck for logging) and had excellent results. These trucks spend more time off road in the mountains than they did on the pavement and they would hold up very well. Very resistant to rock drilling and puntures. Good tire and you'll get lots of miles out of them. Kinda spendy but worth it IMO.

I liked my Toyo MT's a lot. Pretty quiet and good traction. I like Nitto's a little better. I think the tread is a little more aggresssive and seems to wear better. Also pretty darn quiet for a deep lug.

Those are the 2 tires I've been looking at quite a bit. I really like both of them. The Nittos are a little cheaper, but I like the look of the Toyos a little better. From what I've read, there real close in performance, and there built in the same factory with the same compound. I also like the Toyo AT. Haven't read much on the all terain ones yet though.

Well I ended up going with the Toyo M/T's. Couldn't get over the look of them, and thought they looked sweet with the black wheels.

toyo open country tires are crap. they are too soft, and wear out quickly. the m-55 are one of the best tires out there. good in every season and you still get a pile of miles out of them. they are worth the money. we run them on our work trucks as well as my personal truck. nito or is it nitto but anyways the make a tire just like the m-55 and i see a lot of oilfield guys switching to them. but i would spend the money and buy the m-55's

ChubbyDog -> is that a stock suspension or did you do a level or other mod? Are the rims 16" as you posted above? Wondering what I'll be doing with my LML.

There's a leveling kit in there, but that's it. There also 18" wheels. I'm too old to lift a truck anymore. It's hard enough getting my kids, or any girl in or out of it right now. Any higher doesn't make sence to me. I love the look of a lifted truck, but the practicality of it won't let me do it.

Agreed...I'm in the same boat. I like the look of the level kit. I added airbags to my Denali so now it looks raked out. A level kit would be perfect.

Sorry I didn't see this post. I have Toyo MTs on my Tundra, 35" tire on a 22" wheel. Absolutely love them. Great wet and snow traction, firm sidewalls for towing, great ride, QUIET!, long wearing and they look cool on my matte black Tundra. Needed 4" of lift to get 35" under it. I am at 60,000 and way more than half the tread left. Swapped them for Nittos which are crap IMO. Looked cool, no traction even in the rain, dangerous in the snow, wore out fast etc. My buddy had MTs on his 3/4 ton diesel and they didn't last as long as mine, he got about 55-60,000 and swapped them out. I think the heavy diesel trucks are much harder on tires than the 1/2s.

Best hard working tire I've had on our dually (that is overloaded on gravel 90% of time)
Toyo hyperadial. Wowi. At 30% tread left the lugs were still square edged. Anyone who runs gravel knows how it can chew up a tire.

they discontinued the name. Now known as nitto HD grapplers- severe service.

Little hard for icy use but nothing that would Keep me from running them year round

Did I mention, should easy get 80,000 kms out of them!
