Tour Buddy Tank Question

General question here. Does anyone run a Tour Buddy Fuel Tank instead of a can on the back.

They are made in Canada and I'm thinking about bringing some in but do not know if anyone would use them instead of carrying an auxiliary fuel tank.

For those of you that have not heard of them the link above will take you to their web site.

Thanks
Mark

I don't use one myself. From what I have heard the Tour Buddy fuel supply is burned first, so you would have the best of both worlds. Run into the mountains on that fuel and have a full main tank when you get to the hills. That would be great. Right now I run the main tank down, then use the jerry can to get back to the truck.

I ran one a long time ago on a 500 RMK. Great idea and great product. The only problem is it does get burnt first, so you cant save any for a "just in case"

Tour buddy

I Have a friend who had one on every sled he had (4) now (3) he had one burn the fuel line off then the sled started on fire , couldn't get it out , watched the sled burn for two hours , had to haul it out of the woods on a pull sled. He took them off of (3 ) remining sleds he has.

Fuel Buddy

I ran one on my 99 ZR, a long time ago I know. Last year I ran a XP and on long days had to watch my fuel. I know it is used first and the just in case times that would not be good. I've been in a few of those and you spend the last few hours worrying about fuel. I guess in these cases hopefully someone else has a can on the back of their sled.

sweet......180 bucks for a automatic gas tank, that sits in the same place as my 12 dollar one.

I could see using it for long distance flatland trips,(on sleds that don't have a rack) but for mountain riding I think it's a waste of $$$.

Couldn't a person just add a small inline shut off valve? Open it up when your main tank starts running low ?

I believe this wouldnt work because the way it works is your main tank vent is plumbed into the tour buddy, and the tour buddy is the tank that is vented, so when your main tank burns fuel it draws fuel from the tour buddy to equalize the pressure in the main tank. By blocking the vent to your main tank the engine would eventually run dry because it can only suck so much?

Hey Firstplaceparts,

Contact Seth at www.trailtank.net. He has awesome new products coming out for sleds and is looking for more dealers like yourself. His stuff his high quality and much better than the tour buddy stuff. He currently makes large capacity replacement tanks for the sno pro and Nytro. However, he will be releasing ones for the RMK, AC m series, and XP this season. His tanks run around $300 and add 2-3 ga. He will also have the 2.5 ga spare cans available in a couple weeks that are roto molded and will be in different colors. The spare can will fit all the aftermarket racks that are on the market.

BTW, he was contracted by Yamaha to make the large capacity tank for the them so you know is stuff is good if the factory uses it.

The Jerry cans seem more useful IMO.......You can take them off and stash them when you're highmarking the hill, and you don't have to worry about crushing them if you roll.

Also, Jerry cans can be shared with others in the group if needed.

Just my .02
