LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A National Weather Service meteorologist says a tornado touched down in Laramie this afternoon, causing damage to numerous buildings but not yet resulting in any reports of injuries.
Meteorologist John Griffith says he received reports that the storm damaged a high school, junior high and a Wal-Mart building.
Phone calls made to the Albany County School District and the local schools were not answered.
The National Weather Service at 3:45 p.m. lifted tornado warnings it had issued western Laramie County, including the city of Cheyenne, and for Albany County, including Laramie.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation says several southeast Wyoming roads, including westbound I-80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, were closed because of severe weather.
A large tornado tore through several northern Colorado towns earlier Thursday afternoon. The Weld County coroner's office confirmed one person was killed in the storm, which struck about 50 miles north of Denver.
