Top Speed?

Anyone know relatively close what the top speed is on a Axys 2.6 belt drive? Just picked one up the other day been banging it around the ditches here in SD about 1,500ft trying to get it broke in a bit before the turbo goes on.

Got roughly 100 miles (odometer is way off) and 3 hours sled is starting to open up more and more as i ride, But it really feels like it flattens out on top end. Like it quits pulling. Guessing by traffic on the road my top speed is maybe 75mph (my speedo way off too).... That seem right? I have the 68 gram weights in and hitting 8,300rpm all the time.

That all these things are geared for? I just thought from 60-75mph it would pull harder, like I said kinda flattens out. Maybe I am just used to a turbo, or everything is a bit tight yet I don't know

Probably. I don't normally hit top speed on my mountain sled much...

I believe there is a warning in the manual to not exceed 70 MPH with the 2.6 track. I think that's what it says. But if your not willing to look it up, neither am I.

I think highest my display says is like 50 or 55 and that could just be track speed on a hill or something cause i dont really go that fast down the trail

Top rated MPH for the 2.6/3" is 60 MPH...the Peak 2.25 and older 2.4 is 70 MPH, as per Polaris. 75-80 is about all you will get out of the Pro with the 2.6. They are geared lower than the Pro Ride sleds.

79 is the fastest speed that I have seen on my speedo recall that was between 6-8000 feet with 68 mtx weights and 1 gram in heel and two in tip u do have a pipe and that was at 8500rpm on trail with two to three inches of powder loose snow on it that's wiyhout stock helix

That and with the 40* straight helix it doesn't like to upshift either. That combined with the lower gearing will make for a low top speed. My axys show max top speed(3") of 70mph where my 13' pro shows ~90mph. I also experimented throwing the 40* straight on my 13' pro and while it held rpm better, the track speed was way slower and slowly built in the deep. Anyways I may experiment with a slightly steeper straight angle and see what I can get.

Thats what I was wondering about if the clutching gearing just isn't made for the high speeds and that is why I feel like it not pulling past 60mph

yeah guys I don't ride a mountain sled like this either actually been a long time since I ditch banged, just wanted to get it broke in and make sure everything was working right before turbo went on. obviously the gearing clutching on mountain sled has changed a lot since i last rode around here

These sleds will still full shift with the 40 deg helix in the right conditions. You can get there quicker with more helix but don't think you'll see much more top end, although you can likely gain some trackspeed in the deep.

Ya I know I will eventually get there will a more shallow angel helix, just will take longer. And sometimes you don't have the space or time for full shift out...

Since some guys have been complaining I wanted to see what my top speed was. So today on a groomed trail at 8500 ft elevation I kept it pinned and I hit 81. I have a 163/2.6 with an SLP pipe and clutching.

My ddarn speedo and od is way off to. Says im going 35 mph wide open. I have the pidd gauge and just had them re flash it. Hopefully it will read right now.

Not enough smooth trail here for exact top end, but recall shows 67. But for a mint sled we like to gear for around 70 for top speed anyways. From feel of things I am guessing 75 is pushing max. I do know it gets there quite quickly though. All smiles.

Did you get to try out that 56/42 helix? I too have tried the 60/40 and came to the conclusion that the 60 angle might be loading too much at lower speeds and the 40 angle is not loading enough when going faster down the trail.

I haven't yet. Once I get my sled back on the snow running right I will experiment with helixes again. I wouldn't mind trying a straight 42 also.
