top end? injectors?

hey guys my buddy has a 05 900 rmk with just over 2300 miles on it. it has never been touched just oil gas and go. last year the primary clutch went to crap and we replaced it with a brand new polaris clutch and it ran great. just in the last trip the sled started to not make rpm`s 7000 is tops. we did a compression check and the mag side has 135 and pto had 118. is this rpm issue due to the slight week cylinder or perhaps dirty injectors?

I'm not sure about your RPM issue, but one thing is for sure, with 2300 miles on the motor with the original 05 pistons still in it, I wouldn't even start the thing to unload it from your trailer:face-icon-small-sho.... Also, with a difference in compression from one side to the other of over 10%, that in itself signals time for a rebuild. You should be getting around 150 psi from both sides ideally.

As to the tach issue, are there any other symptoms, runnability issues, etc? kinda odd for a sled to suddenly lose rpm in one trip.

When was the last time both of the clutches were serviced? Bushings, weights, springs, etc...

the sled runs and idles great just doesn`t get up to rpms. this guys is the one in our group the never services anything. just buys oil anywhere and whatever gas is the cheapest is what goes in it. it doesn`t seem to have a clutching issue to what i can tell

As 94Fordguy said, check out the pistons. At a minimum pull the exhaust y pipe and have a look at the pistons to see how they really are.

hey guys just thought i would let you know that it was a exhaust valve bellow. It had a huge tear in it. Make more sense since it happened all of a sudden.

Like they stated above, the 05 pistons are weak and will let go! Mine had 1450 miles and the skirt blew apart! Chunks everywhere! As of now you can catch it before it explodes! You can remove the jugs with out pullin' the motor. If they explode yer gonna need to pull and rip the motor apart.
I'm doing that right now, that's why I'm sooo "wordy" on this, it happened to me! who would think that 1400 mile that it would do that! :face-icon-small-fro

The difference in compression from one cylinder to the other means that for some reason one side is wearing different or burning different than the other. I'd get that checked out, but as for low compression... my 900 was running only 90ish psi compression on both sides and still himarking everyone lol.
