togwotee mountain lodge is it worth the money?

I went to the snowies last year, and I wanted to go to togwotee but it would cost 5 times as much to go there.
100+ a night per person, I payed $130 for the 8 days we stayed in the snowies, all seven paid 130 for the week, not 100 a night for all seven.
It was $1050.00 for 8 days at a lodge, togwotee would want 5600.00 for all of us to stay. That seems as steep as the mountains there by.
is there any deals to be had, or somewhere close by thats for regular joes wanting to sled. I'm not rich, I'm a young guy on a tight budget, so are my friends.
I went the the snowies including gas to and from Wisconsin, food, drinks at the bar, for like $600. And I got the wife and kids some gifts from the area on top of it.
Any help would be great.

Stay in Dubois and trailer up.
You can hit the Motel 8 or anyone of about 2 dozen other places.
I usually stay in Dubois and trailer up to Tiehack parking area. From there you can ride anywhere on the mountian.
Togwotee lodge is just at the prime location for sledding (highest elevation and such).
For the price difference I can ride a little.
The last time I was at Togwotee it was overpriced and the food sucked.

Lava Mtn. Lodge

Lava Mtn. Lodge is a real good place to stay its almost to Brooks lake, that way you dont have to drive all the way down to Dubois.

Lava is very nice, brooks lake too, we always stay in Dubois, but my buddies parents live there

I was in the same situation as you last year. I decided to stay at Turpin Meadow Ranch. It is down the mountain a ways from Togwotee Lodge but only 7 or 8 miles away on snowmobile trail. We had a great experience there and I would recommend it for anybody. The price is not like Togwotee Lodge and is more what it should be. Plus just a mere 10-13 minute trail ride and you are at Togwotee Lodge already. The general manager Dennis takes great care of his customers. Plus he updates conditions daily on this site in the winter.

I am sure there are many great places to stay in the area but I still highly recommend Turpin Meadow Ranch.

how far is Dubois from good riding? How far do I have trailer the sleds?

Define "good riding".
I usually have to ride about 30 minutes to get to good snow.
There are a LOT less riders on this side of the mountain. Most come from the other side.

From Dubios to Tie Hack is about 10 - 15 minutes. You can drive farther up to upload or you can unload at Tie Hack and head out from there. That is what I usually do.

Heres a link to all the lodges and places to stay around Dubois and on the east side of the mountain.

This is 20 minutes from Tie Hack parking

All the places mentioned above are good. We stay at Tog lodge. We don't buy the package we get the room only rate. Stay in the cabins and bring our own food and beverages, this keeps the cost down. The cabins are around $160 to $230 depending on the time of year. They have two double beds and a pull out sleeper sofa. If you sleep five (kinda crowded) to a cabin it is very reasonable.
For the price they charge there service has been below par the last two years.
Over all you can't go wrong with any of the places out there.

TOG Mountain Lodge-No GOOD!!

A group of ten of us stayed two years ago. The service sucked the food was horrible and price was way to high. In all that place left a bad taste in are mouths. Would never stay there again. There is a posting on Snowest about the lodges problems.

steak dinner depends on were but around 20 to 30 bucks

90
10
30
------
130$ a night and yet no guide..I know some you are dont like guides

Agree. Put 4 in a cabin, bring food and drinks, keeps the cost reasonable. For around $50 a nite per guy it's worth not having to trailer. Riding from the room is worth a few extra bucks.

Do a search on here from last year, service wasn't that great.

X2

you pay for the convenience, I know the food is so so but it's nice to park your sled in front of the room and forget about the truck for a week. We put 3 in a cabin and split it up
