Tobacco Root riding areas. where can you ride?

This year i plan on exploring the roots because i never have before except in the spring and am very confused about where it is legal to ride. I live in bozeman so i access from the east side. I know theres the lower twin area, and the albro lake snotel/wasnt really even sure if you could ride up by albro. Im also confused about the patosi road that leads past the hot springs towards granite peak. If anyone could post on here or give me a private pm that would be awesome. I just don't want to ride where I'm not supposed to. Thanks

Thats the map i'm basing my knowledge off of.

have you ever been there in the summer? Boulder city, makes for some hardcore dirtbiking...Im going to ride there this winter, in both lower twin side and albro side. i guess ii better make sure its legal but i have talked to several people who ride the roots and the seem to ride up there.

Usually take the turn off at McAllister then head up that road until the snows too deep then unload and ride. If you've got a trailer I'd suggest getting turned around prior to getting stuck or unloading to make sure nobody blocks you in as there really isn't a good spot to turn around (at least there didn't use to be).

thanks for the suggestions so far, hopefully more riders will chime in, not trying to steal anyones spots, just need to know areas that are 100% legal, when looking at fwp maps it honestly looks like theres only a small channel down patosi road, small area around twin lakes and kid mountain.

Then a ton of the east side below twin lakes but it i all at low elevation. That is what i've gathered from the east side, and it really doesn't seem like that much area to traverse from a mileage perspective with so many non motorized/habitat areas.

Albro wasn't even a 100% sure ride area when looking at the maps either, so frustrating!

this is the map that i have been going off of. According to it everything i thought was rideable is non motorized?

sounds like you've been riding the south meadow creek lake corridor south of ward peak, that shows up as a 100% legal on the fwp maps, but once again that is a very small area for any rider, so i still need more info. PM me if you think you know more.

North Meadow Creek and South Meadow Creek (McAllister turnoff) are where I do a ton of riding. North Meadow is groomed for at least 10 miles and accesses Kidd Lake, Lower and Upper Twin Lakes, Cliff Lake, McKelvey Lake, etc. It's super rocky up there....especially this early. I broke 2 a-arms last year. Hope that helps.
