TO TRY OR NOT TO TRY!!!!

WAS JUST LOOKING FOR SOME FEED BACK ON THE SLP MTX FLY WEIGHTS. HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE TRIED THEM ONLY TO RETURN TO THE 10 SERIES POLARIS WEIGHT OR SOMETHIN ELSE? DID YOU REALLY NOTICE A DIFFERENCE GOOD OR BAD? IF SO HOW? WAS IT A NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE? WANT ALL YOUR THOUGHTS GOOD AND BAD. JUST CHECKING WHAT PEOPLE THINK BEFORE DROPPIN $100 FOR A FEW PAPER WEIGHTS IF THEY ARE NOT THAT GOOD IF YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!:face-icon-small-con

You didn't mention what sled?

I installed the MTX's on my 2002 EDGE-X 800 with minor bolt-ons and loved 'em. A marked improvement over the 10-66's I replaced 'em with.

I tried the MTX's in my D7, (replaced the 10-64's) couldn't get them to work, tried 2 different spring combo's, SLP insisted they should work. Main diff was the sled lost bottom end and mid-range responsiveness, top end was un-changed.

And , YES, I re-shimmed the clutch for the proper .015" belt to sheave clearance.

I just spoke to a well respected well known shop this a.m. about a P-2 set-up, (located in the Midwest), and his comment about the MTX's was consistent with what I found.

But like anything else, you're bound to get several opinions......................

They worked well for me on my 800 VES motor (modded). The rivet adjustments offered good tunability for my purposes, although if tuning the weights on the hill you're best served using their rivet removal tool (more money)... good luck

I put them on my 08 D8/163 but added them at the same time as the SLP pipe, intake, primary spring and PC111. The weights did reduce the belt clearance on the primary shieves which was way to much with the Polaris weights. I have no complaints but I don't know how much of the upgrade was due to the clutch weights.

mtx weights

I just installed them about 3 weeks ago 68 gram mtx's, 2 grams in tip and 1 gram in the belly (with proper belt to sheave clearance) and was just riding around the neighborhood since we had just got snow. I was basically riding around just to make sure everything was running right and nailed the throttle to the bar and WOW, it was impossible not to notice the different weight profile of the MTX's. I thought it was a definite noticeable difference over the stock 10-68's. I ride between 0-3000 ft. I have those weights along with the team green spring (150-340) Carls 62/42/.40 helix, 3 delrin washers (1 on each side of the spring & 1 under the spring cup), and both my clutches have been balanced. It goes from 0 to full shift out in no time and it has a noticeable silky smooth feel to it. This set up is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more better than stock. Personally I think these weights are MUCH better than the stock weights.

Put 68's on my 09 163 wich slp recomended. no rivet and still can't hit 8200 have even lightened up by reaming a hole with little changes. I think all of slp products are over priced with very little gains. I have their single, head, pc5 with their tune, vforce, and mtx's and still couldn't keep up with the new cats last year. not really a slp problem, more like a polaris one. but for the cost it is not worth it. Like i read before polaris and slp are in bed together.

It just blows my mind how one guy hates something and can’t make it work and the next says it’s the best thing ever. Just makes ya think. I put them in a 03 800 VES last winter and I took it out for a test spin in the bean field….. felt like I had a completely different sled. I love em. It seems to me like SLP has figured out a way with the weights to make the sled pull more clutch weight with out increasing the engine power. The way I understand it is that the more weight you can pull on the clutch the more power gets to the ground. So with my sled at 8000 ft would call for a 56-62 gram weight but the MTX weights that I have are a 68 gram weights with even a rivet in the outside if I remember right. I’m really not sure how they accomplish this other than the over all profile of the weight and how it reacts with the recommend spring that goes with it. Your D8 should not be any different other than the power that the engine produces and where it makes its peak. Would just use a slightly lighter weight I would assume….You really should try them. If you’re not happy with them sell them on ebay.

Put MTX 64 grams with one rivet in the belly and the light rivet in the tip in my 08' D8 and works great at 9 to 10 k. Runs at 8250 rpm.has a PCV and can but thats all.
I think they work great

thanks for the replies!! one question though, i dont see the 64 gram weights on the web page. are you using a lighter weight and adding rivets to call it a 64 or am i missing something? i was thinking about the 65 gram weights because i am curently running the polaris 10-60 weights and slp recomends adding 4 gram from that. sound right to you all? i am seeing alot of guys running the 68s and that seems like a lot to me.
