To lift, or not to lift....help me decide

I have no use for big lifts....hard to get stuff and people in and out (I use my truck for business regularily), high up to load sleds and crap, towing and hauling performance goes downhill, yada yada. Everyone who owns one says they drive great, but strangely enough whenever I drive one it drives like arse.

The biggest thing for me, is that I sell my trucks every year or so, and you can never get any of your $$ back. I guess if you keep the thing for 10 years or have heavy cash who cares. I'll never have anything lifted more than 2-3"s

Yah to each there own I just lifted my new stroker 8'' and wow that thing rides awesome. And I loaded the sled in the back and went sleddin no problem. Oh well some people like em some dont.

i HAVE LIFTED EVERY TRUCK I HAVE OWNED AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM GETTING A GOOSENECK/5TH WHEEL TRAILER ON THE BACK OF MINE! i HAVE BUDDIES THAT HAVE STOCK TRUCKS AND THEIR FRONT ENDS WENT OUT ON THERES.

How big of lift and what brand and models of fith wheel trailers have you pulled.

I wouldn't do it again

I also have an 03 duramax I had an 8" lift on it with 38x15.5x20 looked sweet rode awesome, The bad thing about it is that it sucks to drive pulling in the winter wide tires float around to bad, I had it lifted for 3 years and got compliments about the truck everywhere i went, but i took the lift off about 6 months ago and left the 20" rims on it I don't have know regrets I never had the truck regeared for when it was lifted so i gained alot of power also bringing it back to stock. To lift the truck and to do everything right It will cost you way to much cash and your truck won't gain no value.

I've got a 03 dirtymax that i'm dying to lift but wallet doesn't agree. i've got pro comp X terrain 315x75/16's squeezed under her with few cranks on the t bars and trimming.
one day i'll lift her.

i'm in the process of getting rid of my titan and picking up a new truck to use as a second vehicle. used mostly on weekends for fun and to tow my 2 place clam shell up north. probably see 10k miles a year. i want to lift it what ever i buy but nothing more than 35's. i was looking a ta few 2500 rams with the gas engine. maybe even a power wagon. would i chew thru parts going with a 4" lift and 35's? i have also found that the leveling kits on the rams can clear 35's. is one way easier on the truck than the other? also will i have to re-gear it with the 35's? one last question, do lift kits void factory warranties? thanks guys.

Some dealers dont void your warranty, some sell them with a lift. I bought mine from a dealer and had them throw a lift, rims, and tires on and didnt void a thing. Havent had any issues with the lift or truck from day one so im happy.

In my opinion, if you are gonna lift and roll on 35s go with a diesel, especialy to tow with. Not only way more power and torque, but also better fuel milage. I also think a 4" lift looks better than a leveling kit if you are going with 35's. As far as re-gearing, I'm not sure about the gas, but definitly no need to with a diesel. I am a proud chevy owner, and yes they wear through front end parts because of the independant front end, but the dodge, having the solid axel front end, doesnt have near those problems. And I also think that is a negative on the void of your warranty.

i do want a diesel but i'm not sure i can afford one right now. i want a chevy but they are few and far between around me for some reason. i like the dodge because i can tuck 35's with the 4" lift.

Really? Where do you live? Yeah thats true about the dodge...they sit tall stock. And lifts are a whole lot cheaper than for a chevy... My Duramax has a 12" lift and thats about $5K-$6K with shocks and everythng...then you add about 3 grand more for rims and tires.

Had an 04 F-250 gasser on 37's, locked F & R ect. ect. Truck did awesome off-road and was a beast, but I don't think I'd lift another one. If you buy a quality lift, quality gears(Yukon or similar), throw an ARB in, and good tires & wheels, you'll be in it 8-9 thousand. Of course you can buy procomp junk and genuine gears but who does that? I now have a 2008 chevy 1/2 ton which I put a leveling kit on and 285's soon and love it. Drives great and gets awesome mileage.

Mass, i have been looking used and have found nothing much, unless i want to pay alot of money. my buddy owns a gmc dealer and he doesn't have much there either, he said no one was buying them so they didn't order many.

Wow, thats a bummer. I'm in Nevada and there seems to still be a lot of Duramax's on the lots. Are looking at new or used?

both, i haven't figured out if i'm going to lease something or buy used. i can't find much in any makes to be honest. not that i have hit all dealers but in my town not much.
