To all MCX NYTRO owners

Keep a very close eye on the valve cover gasket. The charge tube is rubbing against the half moon portion of this gasket and knocking it out.
For those of you that do not know where this is:
Pull the gas tank off and you will see where the charge tube is SMASHED between the motor and the frame.
Pull the charge tube and you will see the 2 half moon areas on the gasket.

When I pulled mine I could see INTO the motor. The halfmoon was GONE.

This is obviously a very poor design from mcx and they need to fix it.
Their proto-type kit did not use a rubber charge tube like the production kits. They used an aluminum charge tube that did not interfere with anything.

A person would think for paying 7 grand for a turbo kit it would be of a little bit better quality.

yep mine did that! could not figure where the damn oil leak was coming from till i removed the gas tank....oh yea there it is!

Mine did it too....no biggy. New gasket and then I made some protectors out of aluminum...thin stuff...just siliconed them in place so now when the hose expands it will rub on that instead of the moon rubber deal. I too couldnt figure out where the oil was coming from.

did you just glue it to the head/valve cover?

Thistle, do u think that the aluminum pieces that u made are rubbing on the gasket. I would think that anything that touches the gasket is going the ruin it.

Is this a oil leak that your seeing under the sled? Or was it leaking onto the exhaust and burning into a smokey cloud?
What do I look for before I start ripping things apart?

mine was just pushed in like it was not rubbing but just the expansion of the hose pop it in the head

mine was keeping my belt lubricated! ya know keeps the squeal down.

I bent the aluminum so it misses the moon piece....just a slight off set. I just used black rtv and gooped it right onto the end of the head. I put some duct tape on and let it dry over night. Then slide the charge hose in and your good to go. Sand all the edges down ect....cant see why it wont work. Never took a pic....you guys see what I mean?

i know what you mean. i kept looking for something to bolt it to and never thought about glueing it.

i added some big fat zip ties to pull the hose away from the head and toward the frame, making it more oval shap but i dont know if they will hold under boost or not.

This will work...black RTV isnt going anywhere....if you have to just pop it off with a screwdriver down the road....it will adhere to the moon to and keep it in place. I had some thin alum from re skinning my trailer....I used that.

Lube is good... not for this of course. Was their ever oil getting to a area that it was burning? I have a small smoke show everytime the engine gets up to temp. since the last ride of the season it was on its lid for a period of time. Could it be just oil sitting somewhere or could the gasket be leaking? I have no oil on belt or anywhere that I can notice. Just had tank off this weekend no oil anywhere.

TBSK---If u have oil burning then u need to check all the lines that go to the turbo.

I had a hole in the vent line coming from the turbo and it would bun oil. Had a local hose shop mak me new steel braided lines, then i wrapped all the lines where they go around the turbo to ensure the would not rub and get more holes.

An easy way to tell if the valve gasket is bad is to run the sled, keep it running and tip it on its left side. If u get oil leaking then its bad

read this thread yesterday, went and checked and sure enouph the forward half moon was pushed right in but not broken..... so i built a cover similar to what thistle was explaining, i took a pic and will try to get it on tonight. thanks guys for saving my christmas riding trip because it was sure to let go very soon. this forum is very cool when real riders give info like this!

I'm sure there are many out there....I had the oil all over syndrom late in the season...looked a few times but thought ahh its prolly from when its been on its side.....when i tore into it in the summer my jaw dropped....holy SH!T my moon was right pushed in....cant believe more oil didnt come out....but the hose kinda seals the area off.....lucky.....I would recommend everyone checking.....:D

was tring to get some 1 3/4" aluminum tube and then cut the boost hose just before the valve cover and just after and replace the hose with the tube but the metal place is closed till after the holidays. this may work as a fix but i dont know if i can get the clamps in there and all together because its so fricken tight.
i post back if i'm able to get some tube.
