TM8 seller won't let me take sled to local shop?

I'm looking at a 07' M8 turbo'd locally. I asked the seller if I could take it to a local shop that I take my stuff to and he told me no way. He said that the shop had screwed his buddy so there was no way he'd let me take it there. Immediately red flags go up in my mind. Am I just being to cautious? Also if I go check it out myself, what are somethings I should look for on a used turbo sled? Thanks for the help!

Ask if another shop would be ok and tell him he can ride along. If the answer is still no, I would beware.

Asked him this too. He did say he was willing to take it to Boondockers since it's local here. Problem is, I don't know anyone there, so not sure if I'll get a straight answer or a sales pitch from a buddy.

If it's my money buying something and I want it checked out.... it's going where I want it to be checked out at or my money is staying in my pocket. The buyer is the one that dictates where he wants it inspected IMHO.

but if he's had a bad experience with the shop wich im assuming he has.....he has every right for not wanting his sled to go back their.

if he is hiding something, get his name, buddies name and detailed pics of sled(get VIN # and have the dealer run it) and take it to the dealer and see what the dealer says. If he can't tell you there is a problem and where it is/ or what the prob is, I would feel fine about taking it somewhere else. I took a friend in to a dealer once and he bought $22,000 worth of sled, mods and trailer. 2 months later the dealer shafted me. I wish I could keep anyone from going there.

Not to bash, but if you have to ask for what to look for you will be much farther ahead having someone like Boondockers or the likes checking it out for you. The older turbo M sleds were not nearly as user friendly as the newer ie. 09 M sleds.

just a thought, not trying to sound like a jerk, BUT, if you are buying a turbo sled and don't know what to look for/ or how to look for things, maybe a turbo sled isn't for you.i am a firm believer that mod sleds should be ridden by people that know how to wrench so they can diagnose problems on the mountain (where the problems occur.)as for the dealer thing, the seller is risking taking a potentially good runner and let someone mess around with it, and getting a sled back not the way it left him. no way i would allow that either.

i guess what i am saying is, don't get a turbo sled just because everyone else is, get one because it suits your ridding style, and your confident that as problems arise, YOU will know how to address them......just my opinion

Thanks for the offer. If I can get the kid to go along I would love to bring it down to you guys. I've seen a few of your turbo setups in the mountains and they are insane!

Kevin is awesome, I just bought a 09' m1000 PG turbo from him, anyhting you want to know about turbos hes the guy, and he actually takes the time to explain it to you....just a thought, maybe see what Kevin has for sale. I would at least give him a call-208-852-0400

If your a good wrench on a NA sled it doesnt mean you will automatically know every thing you need to about turbos. Its pretty arrogant of you to tell someone you dont even know that there not good enough to buy a turbo just because he has never owned a turbo before.

hey smart guy, first off, use a dictionary and read the definition of arrogant and see if it applies here.secondly, tell me where i said he was not good enough to buy a turbo sled.i was actually trying to help the guy make the right choice for himself. while you have your dictionary open, you should look up the word OPINION, that's what he was looking for , and i gave him mine.

If you never buy/build a mod sled how can you know what to look for and know what needs to be done on a mod sled?

Take the sled to Mountain Magic. They are very reputable and are always giving very good advice and help to sledders on this forum.

Take it to boondockers, they will be better looking at it for you than, most of the shops in the Idaho Falls/Rexburg area, espcially on a cat. Or load it up and take it to preston or driggs.

To the guys that are in the pissing match, take it to pms ;) Keep it out of this thread eh.

That is a long ways from Idaho ;) But I have heard good things if you are in the edmonton area

A shop like boondockers isn't going to risk their reputation just to help a buddy sell a sled and IMO boondockers will have a lot more knowledge about the sled and what could be wrong than most (not all) dealerships.

FYI, with my turbo I wouldnt let my sled go to a dealer unless I was standing beside it. I wouldnt take it as he is trying to hide something, its just alot of work and tuning goes into it and someone could jack it up with one screw loose. If the dealer doesnt work on them on a regular basis like an OVS, boondocker, twisted, cpc I wouldnt have in the shop.
On top of that if one pissed me off for something else I sure wouldnt let it go in.
So it may be a good sled you just need to find a friend that knows what to look for or agree to another dealer.
