TM 1000 OVS and no fuel pressure???

Took the sled out today and couldn't figure out why it was getting so hot???? WOT i was seejing 14 and climbing, I would get out of it real quick. In addition, couldn't figure out why the AF ratio would climb up to 17+ at an idle, i'd give it a bit of throttle and they would drop down.

My fuel pressure at idle was set at 41#, it is now at about 35, when I give it some more throttle it will go up to 40, and when I open her WOT, the fuel pressure actually drops to 30.

SOOOO, is this just a matter of I need a new fuel pump? Fuel filter? Or could it be something else?

Thanks, I'd like to get her up and running again ASAP!!!:decision:

Or possibly the regulator??

The othere thing, I keep hearing about the pressure gage holding pressure, mine NEVER has, it drops off to zero as soon as you shut it off, and doesn't build up with each pull like otheres I have seen.

Thanks again.

the fact that it drops off under load worries me.. its either the pump or the regulator, not really sure, ill just give you my opinion on whats happening, so take it for what its worth.

IMO its the regulator, if the pump was going bad, you pressure wouldnt rise, it would only barely be able to keep up at idle, hence the drop, then just fail totally under load trying to keep up.

if your regulator is bad, its just bypassing to much fuel right now. the pump cant keep up with it. a normal bypass regulator should hold pressure VERY well for quite some time, the fact that it instantly drops off means the pressure has to go somewhere, either backwards into the fuel pump, through the injectors, or throught the bypass. i know the aftermarket external pumps i have seen have check valves in them to prevent backflow..

take the reg apart and inspect it.. not sure which one is on your ovs setup, but they are pretty straightforward to inspect.

Thanks, I appreciate your opinion, I was initially thinking fuel pump, then thought of the regulator. I'll try to check it out tomorrow.

Keep the opinions coming, thanks guys!:face-icon-small-ton

It could also be that you are loosing power, I don't know how your setup works so I don't know. I would try and hook a 12v source to the pump and see what it reads, you might try hooking it up backwards and reversing the pump, there may be something or some reason its not wanting to pump and reversing it may clear it out. The smart valves in the tank are supposed to block all water and if you by chance have water in the tank it might block the amount of fuel flow. If you have a pressure controlled regulator, after you put 12v to the pump you may be able to put pressure on the regulator and see if it builds pressure. The only other thing that would drop pressure is if its a pressure sensitive reg and it was getting a vacuum.

I had a similar problem with mine recently. It ended up being a power problem to the second pump, the primary was running and the secondary was not. Same scenario getting high afr #'s and not getting boost fuel pressure.

Ya, I spoke with Travis at OVS and he believes it is probably a power problem as well. Gave me a few things to test, bt like I have siad, I haven't had time. I need to pressure the secondary pump up as Wyboy suggested.

Never Satisfied, what did you do to fix your problem?

Thanks, I'll keep ya all updated once I start working on it.

Fuel pump

I wired mine to red with black stripe off of CCU, and check your ground. Also disassemble BEG Reg and lube the center piston. Easy 2 do.

Well, I think and hope i have it figurted out. I was able to pinch off return fuel line and it pressured up to 100psi, so my pumps are working.

At idle, I put 20# to the regulator, and my fuel pressure only went up 6-7 pounds. Sooo, I believe it is the regulator.

I did take it apart and the diaphrams are fine, looks like a pretty simple setup, so I am not sure why it would fail or what is damaged in it that it doesn't work properly.

Hope that is it, I'd hate to drop $200 only to find out that it is not it.

Power

Do you have at least 11 volts at he aux pump at idle?
Do you have a capacitor or the DC coverter from Cat?
Is your boost reference hose to your reg split, off or damaged an any way?
Have you by passed your aux pump to see if stock pump is functioning?
Do you have fuel in your tank? (Just kidding) GOOD LUCK!

Well, I put fuel in it and it works!!! lol kj

I have 12-13 volts to the secondary
Boost reference line looks good
I bypassed the secondary, it will start initially but I only have 20# of fuel pressure and then it drops off, and the sled dies like you turned a fuel shut off valve. However, it is still running through the regulator, so I don't know if that could be the problem? Would the stock pump push fuel through the regulator?

Thanks

Well, after many calls to Travis and Garr, about 6-7 just this morning, I finally fixed the problem. (I hope)

It appears that the boost hose that goes from the airbox to the regulator must have been occluded, so it was not sensing boost and therefore no increase in fuel pressure.

Sounds like a simple problem, but there were many things to eliminate before we discovered that is what it was.

Travis and Garr were great, and dispite them having to explain things to my dumb azz, they never once got frustrated and just kept telling me to call back after I tried one thing after another. Thanks so much.

All this and I didn't spend a dime, I offered to pay for his/their time, but Travis just said no way and that he just wanted to get my up and going. AWESOME CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!!

Thanks again to OVS and all that contributed.
