Tires: Toyo MT's vs BFG's

Toyo's without a doubt. 35 X 12.5 X 18's went 61,000 on my last set. GET THEM SIPED and rotate often. They have been the best tire I've owned hands down. Great traction, wear like iron, quiet on the freeway. Well worth the money.

That seems fishy. You can search the internet for hours on multiple sites (pirate, dieselstop, ect.) and it is extremely hard to find negative reviews of Toyo's. They consistinantly balance with less weight than other tires(3 of my 37's took less than an oz.) maybe the store got a bad batch?

Did your buddys all have lifted trucks?

I run BFG AT KO's and will get about 50K miles out of them. They have great snow traction and ok mud traction. For an AT on a Cummins, they have done ok but they aren't cheap for 305/65/17.

No lift's all stock. I'm thinking a bad batch also after reading other reviews. It's hard to believe though because one guy purchased his much later than the other two.

That's pretty good...I couldn't get anywhere near that just on a gas pot 1/2 ton.

Have run both tires and have switched to the Dick Cepec Radial FCII. I will never buy the BFG again, the Toyo was better than the BFG but i am liking the Dick Cepec much better than the Toyo. My 05 GMC Duramax Diesel sees 25% gravel and 75% pavement. I also know a lot of people that have switched from the Toyo to the Dick Cepec.

Another vote for Toyos here. Quietest Mud Tire I have run. I've BFG MT KM, Pro Comp MT, Pro Comp XMT and regular AT Cooper STs. Like the Toyos the best so far.

Only 7k on mine, but look new

Mine are siped and are very impressive in the snow and ice. They really go well through the deep snow!

I'm running 35x12.50R17 on an 03 Cummins

They look mean too!

I had 285 BFG ATs and seemed to get excellent snow traction, but I didn't keep them long enough to see how they would wear.

Had a set of toyo mt i would not run those jap rags on a rig if some one gave me a lifetime supply of them. They worked in mud and snow horrable on ice.You couldnt keep the truck driving in a strait line the radial pull was really bad. Also there not as tuff as they claim i had 75% tread left and a 5/8 dia. bolt went through the tread belt and popped the tire. I would recomend bfgs or goodyear. Have goodyears now and i will be putting them back on when they wear out.

toyo mt wicked in the snow and mud but terrible for wear. 03 cummins w/ 50,000km on them and they are bald as f@#k! there has got to be something better, even for a fullsize. (35 x 12.5)

Tires

just to confuse ya more....

Have 10k on new set of Khumo's and they have worn better than my BFG's and Toyo's so far.......I have a 7.3 crew cab so lots of weight, lots of towing, I like these tires the best so far....they are 35/12.50/18

Jay, with those two as your choices, don't even consider the BFG's buddy. Toyo no question between those. Friend of mine got 100,000km's out of a set of 35x12.5's on a lifted Cummins, i couldn't believe it till i saw the paperwork on it either. That was being on top of tire pressure, rotation, and front end repairs tho!

I did get good life out of my Xterrains on my truck as well, and am now currently running MTZ's. Tire shopping is frickin expensive huh? haha

^ Haha, ya, apparently I haven't bought tires in awhile....yikes. Oh well, not as expensive as truck shopping.

If you find something, let me know. I have the same setup and haven't found a decent wearing M/T tire yet:(

I've got the ATs on my 7.3 F250 and they have 81,000km on them and I'll bet I could get another 30k out of them without issue. I only tow/haul with this truck.

Check out the Truxxus MTs. That's what i'm going with next.

03 extended cab LB Duramax Toyo AT (not MT) 30k miles and they were shot.

2000 chevy S-10 ZR-2 (65k on BFG AT D rated) till sold it.

05 CC LB Duramax (55k on BFG AT D rated and plenty of tread left). Didn't have them siped until I had 45k miles. Won't run anything else.

2 Friends with 35" Toyo's can't stand them for ride or wear but they look good. Both say makes trucks pull to one side no matter the allignment or balance. Suck in sand as well.

Make sure rim size (width) is right for tire though. Good luck

Rotation, rotation, rotation. I got 40K miles out my last set on my 3/4 ton and that was a lot of gravel driving. I try to rotate them every oil change.

Yup, every 7500 miles. :face-icon-small-hap I went two oil changes once and the fronts started to cup on the inside. Now they're pretty noisy.
