Tired of reading about risers

Seems like there are so many different opinions on what all needs to be extended when adding risers. I am tired of reading about it and trying to determine what I need for my exact sled.

I have a 2004 Polaris RMK 700 Vertical Edge with a 151" track and I want a 6" Riser. Do I need to extend?

If yes:

I have read that the throttle cable extenders are prone to sticking, true or false?

I have read that the cheapest, easiest way to extend the brake line is to have a local auto parts shop make some grease fittings with a hose, true or false?

Am I ok to use butt connectors and shrink wrap for the wiring?

Thanks for the input guys.

Yes you will need to extend.

I have had no problem with my throttle extender but obviously can't speak for everyone.

That would be the cheapest way, but an extended brakeline isn't exactly a million dollars or anything either.

As long as you make sure the shrink wrap completely seals the connection that will work fine.

I put a 6" on my 03 rmk and yes extensions needed. I used the cable extendor and no issues with 600miles. I also bought a new brake cable. As for wires, only had to extend 2 or 3 if i recall correctly. Soldering/shrink is the best way but butt connectors and tape will work.....for awhile.

Yes you have to extend
My extension hasn't stuck on me, it does seem to stiffen up the thumb pressure needed to push the throttle.
I used a grease gun extension for my breaks, same threads as the break line is now, and a union, total price was about $10-$12 and it's working great!
I perfer to a little more of a positive connection than just a butt connector. Not saying that won't work but I went with the solder just in case.

Have fun, it's worth the effort, you might want to look into guards also, hands get a little chilled hanging up there.

Thanks for the help fellas! I may go with a full throttle cable then just piece together a brake line like stated with grease gun fittings. When I do the connectors, I plan to tape them and shrink wrap over the top of that. If anything should happen it's not the end of the world, I can take it apart and re-do it.

I've never had a problem with my hands getting cold, and rarely even use the hand warmers. I also have a short windshield and my hands are kinda hung up there anyway. And since everybody loves pics, here is a pic of what I'm workin with.

and the day I bought it:

Here is a video of last weekend, I was pretty tickled to have 8 inches of fresh snow this late in the season!
