Tips from all that own PROS

I regret ever buying the Assault!!

In the same year I purchased a 2011 Assault 155 for my wife and Pro-RMK 163 for myself. My thought process was that I could purchase the Assault and take advantage of the upgraded ride control. The concerns I had about the track were confirmed on the first ride. That thing is a trenchin mother!! Not to mention the front end jumps in the air so quickly its hard to even ride it across a gravel snow park! Admittedly, the Assault is one badazz sled for spring riding, but otherwise a real challenge. My wife was getting quite frustrated so I jumped on it and got back off just as quickly when I experienced her frustration.

What I did.....

1. Removed the stock Assault track and installed the Challenger Extreme.
2. Relocated the front skid bolt in the upper mounting hole (pre-punched) to keep the front end down. This is the same mounting location as the Pro-RMK.

It is a completely different sled!!

As far as the wide front end goes..... Don't even know the difference unless you get out a measuring tape.

Just my .02

Just make sure what sled you buy it comes with a good warranty you will need it. 1495 miles 11 assault cracked cylinder, rings shot,1200 miles 12 assault broken skirt = new short block 12 163 clutch broke in half they ended up putting a short block in it. 3 sleds different owners same town not one of them has made 2000 miles.
We are getting ready to tear down another 12 163 with a turbo to install the fix kit and we will check his cylinders.
So when someone tells you how good they are ask how many miles it has been ridden in the mnts. To me if you don't have over 2500 miles on it you really should not voice your opinion on how good they really are.

so i can't afford a new sled this year... and everytime i start to get all fired up about snow checkin' that "2014 Polaris Pro Rmk 163 with all the new bells and whistles and color scheme of my choice"....... i read stuff like this and my stomach churns. have they reallt not figured these engines out yet??? i thought the 13's where supposed to b all fixed or something, maybe, i was hopin.... the chassis is the **** tho!! hard to argue with its track record.

btw.. the competition track flat sucks. early season snow anyway, spring snow its much better.

if i was going to buy a pro rmk, or assault it would have to be the 2013 too. why not get the pinnacle of what technology has to offer.

i too would like to think that polaris would have fixed the 800 by now, but the sad facts are that they have not...it's a little better than the dragons, but dyno hp is down to an average of 139 now, and they still don't have it reliable..and yes 1500 miles or so and you will wonder where they hid the handgrenade....cause it will...wishin' don't make it better...polaris seems to have the attitude that they don't need to make an effort to make the engine reliable in the mountains, because the flatland sleds don't have many problems...but mountain riding ain't flatland riding, and as long as some people can afford a new sled every year, and put less than 1500 miles on it, it must be cost effective for the bean counters at polaris...but good product integrity doesn't seem to be a corporate goal..too bad...:face-icon-small-sad

Look at all the ads to fix the 800 problems longer rods , different pistons ,the gismo, custom pistons and spacers . There is a problem since 08 ask yourself this what happened to the 700 it worked.

Measure the pistons.. I think you will be surprised at the measurement....

Let us know

I did Kelsey there was .0079 clearance I think they were 3.3387 and the bore was 3.3466 . I will measure skirt thickness tomorrow on cylinder and transfer port.

sleds

the pro rmks are awesome
the 2011 had a few little issues, the 13 they changed injectors and some other minor things
the 13 they changed mapping, quick drive, running boards and some little things

as far as engine problems go there was a few with pistons and cylinder tolerence not correct, they did change cylinder style after 2011
we have 130 pro rmks out and only two needed overhauled, so they are holding up really well, to help make sure to warm them up and run polaris oil
Just trying to help

Since 08? Polaris has NEVER built an 800 that lasted. Since the 2000 RMK the 800 has had MAJOR problems! I find it absolutely ridiculous that they will be going on 12 years (they didn't build an 800 in 06 and 07) of a POS motor and still haven't figured it out. If they didn't have the Pro, I bet they wouldn't be producing snowmobiles any more. Yes the Pro is a fun sled, I just wish Polaris would put a motor in it that complimented the chassis. I bought a 13 just to have the warranty for WHEN the motor goes down. But I'll still get un-easy going in a place where if it goes I can't get it out. You'd think that by paying $12,000+ for a TOY it would last more than 1500 miles. Rant over..

bone stock they work pretty good, as said turn the oiler up to burn 1 qt per 10 gal of gas, and add 1 pint to every 10 gal of gas..clutching..slp blue/pink spring with a heel heavy weight(I run slp mtx weights) helps..a helix can but watch for excess clutch heat, for deep snow try to keep the skid springs as soft as you can(especially the frt track shock), avoid carring stuff on the tunnel if you jump or bottom the suspension all the time...other wise..ride it(try it stock first...the sled is damn good as it is delievered ) if you ride extremely hard..might want to brace up the tunnel..(they can kink the tunnel in the rear and up frt between the frt skid bolts and the chaincase(I do make brace kits as do others ....)

Really 1 qt per 10 gal. and a pint mixed????? I would say thats excessive. mine ran great with a turbo last year at 54 to 1.
Next year I will be running more oil but not 22 to 1

Hey guys (sorry if im jacking your thread) Im buying a 12 assault and wanna know what clutch setup be best for the 2500-7000Ft range?

Frisco..heres my opinion on oil and the poo motor..in the dragons , poo poured the oil to them, most used at least a qt and a 1/4 per tank of fuel as delievered..many used much more...these motors ate topends like candy..yet it was rare that you ever heard of one having a bottom end issue..rareer still that they lost a bottom end bearing...now..on the pro the only oil the bottom end gets is from the oiler.., the top end..well it doesnt get any..except what can get pulled up from the lower end....little to no oil put in the fuel is ever going to see the bearings in the bottom end..(just wont because of how the injectors spray the fuel up into the topend)..so I turn up the oiler to feed the bottom end, and then feed the top thru the fuel..just as polaris requires the dealer to do everytime the motor gets touched..from brand new out of the shipping crate to every time a motor gets pulled down..now do you think burning a qt and a 1/2 of oil for every tank is going to hurt it? or hurt performance? it wont..its simply a way to help make sure this motor lives...and oil is cheap compared to a motor....

Some of the turbo guys have an advantage with the secondarys firing through the entire motor. IMO the turbo stuff is actually more reliable because of that. Premix a little oil and it goes everywhere in the motor.

I run a little oil from time to time in the tank. I'm also religious about warming the sled up in the parking lot and holding off on full throttle pulls until a few miles of riding. Blurp the throttle all day.

I never lost a CFI4 motor and had over 2400 miles on it. A group of us (9) have Pro's/Assault's and nobody has lost a motor in our area yet. I think the elevation helps a little here. I'm not saying it doesn't happen to people but I certainly don't consider the CFI2 a failure. I find it funny that people complain about the motor and still buy the sled!

oil

I turned my oiler up a tad last year(****ty year) and I just pulled my y pipe and cleaned my valves and my motor gets plenty of oil out the exhaust with out premixing the fuel.

Why do you think that's funny? Most believe that Polaris has the rest of the sled dialed in pretty well, just need a better motor. What's the alternative? Buy a Yamaha? LMAO, if the motor gets fixed, the Poo is the perfect sled for most.

What is your elevation Bugito . Maybe that is why poo keeps lowering the hp in stead of increasing it ?
What change too the cylinder did they do for the 12 and 13s ?
Why do they run a mono block instead of separate cylinders ?
