If reprogramming the dpm , if it is on 1 and you go to 6 have you advanced or retarded it ??? somone explain how this works

I have heard mixed reports from some very knowledgable people on which direction is + and - on this. Different dealers give different answers.

Now that's just scary.

Jeff, Don't you have a manual on disc?
I have one at home and can look up anything you need.
(I could even run a copy for ya) ;)

See you Saturday.

To check the timing:

1 - Open service manual and find spec. ( Something like 0.190" BTDC)

2 - Install dial indicator in the mag side spark plug hole and find TDC.

3 - Rotate engine backwards to the amount specified (0.190" BTDC)

4 - Use a piece of wire and scribe a mark on the primary clutch without moving engine's location.

5 - Start engine with (dial indicator removed and spark plug installed) a timing light hooked to the Mag side spark plug wire.

The marks of the wire and the mark you just scribed on the primary clutch should be lined up within 0.5 degrees.

IF there is any adjustment needed, connect the handheld programmer and make adjustments needed as per the shop manual.

The numbers 1-6 are just reference numbers, not actual degrees of timing.

If I remember correctly, i think the number 0 stands for -1 degrees and 6 is like +3 degrees and 4 is like -3 degrees.

I will break out my shop manual and come back tomorrow with the right answers.

lance , I have the manual, I'm waiting for some one to tell me what the perferred timing is , 1,2,3,4,5,6 before or after
