Timbersled Tunnel Top's cracking

In the last two weeks I have had two different customers contact me about the top of the tunnel cover cracking on there 2016 Timbersled units. One is a LT on a KX500 and the other is a SX120. I have hear of a another SX120 crack also last year.

Is this a common problem?

I have always run a gas can a bag on my tunnel, and never had a problem when we were Timbersled dealers. I am thinking that the added weight and rails kept the tunnel tops from vibrating so much.

I had an issue with my cr500 cracking from the bolts on the side..... 2015 Lt... That said the replacement has a bag and a tunnel cooler and I have not had an issue ..

My last two kits have had the tunnel top crack on them, but they were on a very vibraty KX500 with a tunnel cooler. I don't think I supported the tunnel cooler well enough, it was just bolted to the sheet metal. A friend of mine also has his tunnel top cracked on his KX500, also with a tunnel cooler. I'm not really sure if the tunnel cooler is the issue or just the vibrations. Everything else on my KX also fell apart due to vibrations, so it wasn't much of a surprise to see the tunnel top cracked.

Instead of buying a ridiculously expensive piece of bent aluminum sheet metal from Timbersled to replace it for this season, I just reinforced the sides of what was left with some 1x1 angle aluminum. It seems to be holding up just fine for now. My new 450 is sewing machine smooth compared to that KX though.

I'm not complaining though, that KX motor just destroyed everything, and I also had a tunnel cooler bolted on there. Definitely outside of the original design intent.

My k5 and my 250sx both cracked 2 different tunnels in no time from the vibrations. As soon as I started seeing the cracks I started using shoo goo on all the joints and overlap the cracks. It is in the walmart shoe isle.... It holds everything together even where the factory bolt holes completely broke out and it stays flexible so i think it helps keep future cracks by damping the vibs somewhat.

When I did my ST to LT conversion I built a new tunnel extension and had it powder coated. If anyone needs it I think I have the original ST extension here somewhere for a 13-15 kit don't know if it fits the new style. As for the extensions its always best to bend 5052 across the grain for this very reason bending with the grain increases the chances of cracking, add I powder coating and voila.
