timbersled rear skid rear scissor bushing failures

could you have the slide made out of stainless? instead of bronze, how about an oilite bushing. should help having its own lubricity (to a point). just offering suggestions. would like to be part of the solution process for you and everyone that uses this product. ski

it is an oilite, and a set screw...not that difficult to engineer...but I am the king of over simplification...

I wrote to Ulmers yesterday about this issue, being they did the front end Oilite, waiting for a reply. Well keep you guys posted.

The steel shafts really need to be hard chromed. I plan on getting my done this summer. This is similar to a shock shaft.

Another option is Nitride which would be better than the bare steel but not as good as hard chrome.

Also I assume why some people are having issues and others are not is the tolerancing on the tube the bushing gets pressed into is not that tight. Unless, Timbersled hones out the inner tube to get the correct tolerance for the pressed in bushing. The bushings look to be an IGES bushing which has similar self lubricating feature like Oilite.

Alan has a new bushing they have been working with for a wile now that will not slide out or crack it is a free update to those that have had problems just give him a call and he will help you out.

Good to know Justin. I've had similar problems as well. What kind of bushing are they using now?

I forgot the name they are a spendy bushing and Alan rode allot this year making sure they would not have an issue and as normal they are going to back there skids and products.

Also the new skids from Timbersled now have the slide in nickle coating as well.

Jrod I will have these bushings for you so this summer sometime we can put them in if you would like. How is your skid working??

I also never had a problem with mine I did not grease and tried to get them to come out but I know some did have problems and Alan stands behind his stuff so the problem was addressed.

Just had the one go out on mine and kept a close eye on them. Didn't glue them, just grease them every ride. The skid works great. Very weight sensing when it comes to climbing. Keeps my nose down yet handles decent on the trails. Don't remember what I'm running for pressures. Whats everyone else running. I think I'm at 110 rear and 60 front.

Let me know when you get them in and we'll get them installed. I'll buy the beers

When I had my sets on, I would use a light grade moly grease every couple of days riding. If I was away somewhere riding for multiple days, I would just hit them at night with Penetrating Oil to keep the rust off. Never an issue. I had a customer come in with some pulled out, his tubes were rusted up so I used extra fine steel wool to clean them up, then polished them with some metal polish. No issues since and he is maintaining them.
