Anyhow, does anyone want to ride tomorrow in the AM?

unfortunately, it will be all tracked up from those of us riding this afternoon !!

do you guys know what a Rutschblock Test is???

I was just thinking about the rain that fell last Thur/Fri up in the hills. It might be a good time to dig a pretty deep pit - like below the rain soaked snow - and do a modified (i.e. non-skiier) Rutschblock Test.

I *think* the snow that has fallen this week has generally been light enough that it will slough off on steeper slopers. If the rain soaked snow didn't get a chance to set up it could cause a MAJOR problem.

If you've got three or four in your group this shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. You can choose to do it two ways. One, dig the pit then stand above the block and step onto it. The test is designed to use skis so you wont' have the advantage of spreading your weight evenly and you won't have ideal results but you'll at least see the layers.

My idea on a modified RB test for snowmobile is to dig the pit double the width one would normally be dug (normal = armwidth), move everyone away from the block then have one rider sidehill above. This is basically "ski"cutting the slope, rider beware they could go for a little ride.

Anyways, food for thought... oh, if you don't know what a Rutschblock Test is click this link http://www.fsavalanche.com/Default.aspx?ContentId=23&LinkId=28&ParentLinkId=3 :beer;:beer;

wish I was riding tomorrow but someone has got to work:mad:
