Thumbscrews for hood removal.

We took some bolts and cut the heads off and drilled through the sides and put spring clips through them. Also use a thin cable to them so they can not get lost.

I am too lazy to go take mine off, what size bolt is it ?

It's a M6x1, 20mm long screw threads.
And just FYI - this was verified using a Polaris parts diagram.

Yes.
The stock screw have a taper to them at the bottom so you will have to take 1/4" or so off of the 20mm and taper/chase the thread ends to make them fit tight , unless you can find shorter ones somewhere, I couldn't seem to find smaller than 20.

cool

I did mine when I got my 11 new I replaced the side ones with the same thumb screws and added slip nut on them cost less than $5 at the nut and bolt store

Dropped Mine

Was going to reinstall the hood late Friday night and it fell in. Heard it rattle and finally sounded like it landed on the bulkhead.

Can't see it and my handle for my magent is a telescoping solid one.

I don't dare leave it be?

I'll be diving in next weekend to find it. Pretty unlikely it could have fell into the air box, right? I mean I had the hood almost in place but should have used a small screw driver for the final alighnment instead of the star adaptor on the socket extension.

Anyone have any experience retrieving the bolt? think it went between the air box and tank instead of toward the motor?

I like the idea expressed here of some kind of fastner that wouldn't allow it to fall down in the engine compartment.

Anyone have an idea of a washer/snap ring with a small wire attached?

Anytime I drop something in the engine compartment, it almost always falls to the bottom. To get it out I use the magnet tool. If that fails then I'll pull the can, tilt the sled on it's side and let the part slide to that side of the sled. Then all you have to do is reach in with your hand or magnet tool and get it out.

If it doesn't fall all the way down then you'll have to search. I hate it when that happens...
