Throttle Pin Switch

Does anyone know what the throttle pin switch does or changes in the ECM on these machines? The new machines only have one switch where in the past there were two that worked together to detect the throttle if it froze open. It woluld then kill the ignition.

On the Pro with the single switch when the throttle is at idle position (switch closed) there is a reading of 2300 ohms. When the pin switch is depressed the switch opens for a split second and then goes to a very high resistance reading in the K ohm area. If the switch is taken out of the system completely the engine light will come on on. This will be an open, which the light does not flash when the switch goes through this open when the throttle is activated. If you connect the two wires going into the harness the engine light will also come on (to low resistance apparently).

Just wondering what the switch does and what changes the resistance values do to the runability of the systems it affects?

I am installing an aftermarket throttle block and would like to know what to do with the switch or if there is a certain resistor I should be installing on the wires since the switch is no longer in the system.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

You are correct that it is a resistance switch and if you try and bypass it will not run above idle.

You need to either tape the switch in depressed position and tuck into wire harness (easy) or put in resistor for depressed value-- I believe it is 6800 ohm. Check the manual on that value.

I have over ridden the TSS switch on both my Pros and run tethers.

Hey Murph....

Any chance of a 'tutorial' on this??
"I have over ridden the TSS switch on both my Pros and run tethers."
Its on my to-do list.....any advice would be great.

Thanks. :beer;

Sleds are in Tahoe and I'm down at the beach for the summer so no pictures...but here goes.

1. Remove the end cap from throttle block, where cable and wires come out.

2. Inside the throttle block there will be a small gold colored screw with a washer, remove this

3. The TSS switch is held in place with that screw and washer. A black/ red and a black/ blue wire lead to it, gently pull on these wires to remove switch from throttle block

4. You now have a couple of choices on how to override the switch. (I went with "C")
A. Tape the switch plunger down and reinstall in the throttle block--looks completely stock
B. Tape the switch plunger down and leave the switch out of the throttle block and attach it to the wire harness just under the hood-- less wires going to up to handlebar
C. Open switch body (it's only taped shut) and pull contacts away from switch. I inserted two pieces of zip tie to isolate the contacts from each other, and tape the switch body shut again and reinstalled in throttle block
D. Find where TSS switch plugs into main wire harness-- two wire plug blk/red blk/blu. Disconnect TSS plug and use the appropriate resistor --6788ohms-- to jump the main harness wires to themselves.

It makes more sense when you get it open.

I'm planning on making some plug and play TSS override kits this summer, just need to work out the cost.

Is there any benifit to doing this besides switching to a different throttle block that does not use the TSS?

^^^ Yes.

I'm using stock throttle block and Polaris tether.

The TSS switches can go bad and the TSS switch can give a false "throttle stuck" code when snow builds up between throttle block and flipper.

For me, one stuck caused by the TSS switch is one stuck too many.

TSS

When you open up the TSS, you can just remove the contact, spring & plunger. Tape it back up & leave under the hood with the stock kill switch. Make sure to install & use a tether!! I've done this on four pros that I ran with CMX throttle blocks. cheers Lefty
