throttle lever, pull not push

Does anyone on here have their throttle lever setup for a pull motion instead of the normal 'push'. what did you use for the lever? would a 'lefty' throttle do the trick.
i was just thinking how much better of a grip one could get with your right thumb wrapped around the bar at all times. it would be like down hill biking or motocross, the index fingers do the work, seems better to me.
 
I set them up that way on my stand up jet skis. I like that way better than a thumb throttle. I think you are asking for trouble, on snowmobiles, with trees involved.
 
Most of my friends run a backwards throttle. You can hit the bars on a landing & not hit the throttle, it's more natural when on a right sidehill... Nothing dangerous about it at all unless you're planning on squeezing it with your whole hand!!:D Of all the people that I know that have tried it, only one has switched back.

We just loosen them & spin them to about 45 degrees from the ground, so it's pointing somewhat downwards.
 
If I were to do it....I would put a very sturdy barkbuster/handguard on to prevent tree branches from pulling the throttle.
 
I ran last year without handguards... bad idea. Never got me in trouble, but it had it's moments where I wish I had them!! Regular handguards do just fine though (throttle is pretty close to the mount point), I used to run barkbusters, it wasn't any different.

yeah, some sort of sheild would be my only concern as I ride in some nasty deep woods a LOT, and I very normally have branches plowing into my hand gaurds, other then thaat sounds kinda cooll, im somewhat tempted to try it.
 
I think it would be more natural standing up, but again as others have mentioned if theres any tree branches they might snag
 
Oh, forgot the main reason I switched. When riding 2, I put the passenger in front of me & carry their ski/board on my back, it allows for more control climbing. With the throttle in normal orientation the passenger occasionally hits their right forearm on the throttle. After pulling a sled from a 45 deg slope that had slammed into a tree because a passenger hit the throttle... switched over, love it.

It doesn't cost anything to try it, but give it a legit couple hours to get used to it if you try.
 
what happens when you loose your sled and she leans hard/burys on the right side...full rpm till you get to your sled..??

i guess a tether is the answer if a person is worried about it
 
thanks for the tips backcounrtislife. i thought about just turning the stock throttle, it seemed to easy and cost effective though... with the throttle pointed some what downwards i cant see it causing much problems when bush whacking. im defiantly going to give it a go for a few rides.

Actually, riding without handguards all last year, that never happened to me once, but that's another reason I'd make a point of riding with guards. I've had it give a braap as it hit that side, but never stayed on the throttle.

Btw, if you watch the videos, more guys than you'd think are running backwards throttles.
