Throttle Body water flow valve

I saw a threat a while ago about installing a valve on the coolant hose coming off the cyl. head and going to the throttle bodies on an 800, I think. I was thinking about doing this while I have my 700 apart. Anyone have opinions on whether this is a good or bad idea? I do know that colder air is better air, and the valve can turned back on to keep the TBs from freezing if riding is very cold temps.

I am going to be doing it this summer on my sled as well, no need for warm throttle bodies all the time.

I believe that the a good portion of the bypass coolant (when the t-stat is closed) thru the TB's....

This may be dangerous on this motor.

My 2 cents.

on the RMK 900s...you have to remove that hose entirely to use an SLP head...i couldnt imagine it being any different on the dragons..ALL 3 of my sleds have these hoses removed and capped off?

are the dragons any different Eric?

With the SLP 777 kit, there's no provision on the SLP head to send coolant to the throttle bodies. SLP provides a cap to plug the TB coolant return line on the reservoir bottle. So, take this as you will.

rich,

I believe that is because the cylinder head is different and has different coolant path.

Correct. This can be done with an aftermarket head that has been DESIGNED to NOT run the bypass.

What's funny is the Fact that SLP released a bypass kit last year for the 800 CFI that is fed from the coolant going thru the Throttle bodies.

As for the SkiDoo comparisons one makes....Apples and Oranges. The SkiDoo coolant bypass is on Carburetor models to prevent carb icing from occuring. Any pilots out there will understand how important this is. Plus, their coolant systems are DESIGNED for a valve, Polaris' is not.

On CFI models, while this isn't an issue, cold engine, cold air temp runnability is. Removing the coolant flow from the throttle bodies will affect cold runnability.

For better or worse?

COOLANT SHUT-OFF

It's actually in my TECH TIPS thread for 600/700/800 CFI's under increasing your IQ pinned at the top of the IQ section

I did it on my 2007 D7

Colder denser intake charge is a benefit.

Install a simple shut-off valve (from the hardware store) onto the head where the 1/4" line attaches to.

Try it for your self and make your own determination.

Disregard the pessimists that are "afraid" of actually trying it

Hey Kraven thanks, it's a non-issue for me now as the new SLP 777 top end doesn't have a provision to send water through the TBs. May help someone else though.

WHAT'S THAT GOT TO DO WITH THE PRICE OF MILK?

Just another way to Cold Seize a Engine...

Trying to get a extra 1 hp!

Cold seize by taking the 130* anti-freeze out of the throttle bodies?????????????????????????????????????????????????

You're joking, right?

We're talking about installing a shut-off valve on the 1/4" line that routes some anti-freeze through the throttle bodies and then dumps into the reservoir.
