thoughts on 2003 rx-1 mountain

i have found a 2003 rx-1 mountain 151"x2.75 track with 1000 mi.
Guy is asking 3500 sure he will go 3200
I hear alot of people saying the seat is not that good well I am usually standing most of the time i ride
and I have a set of powder ski to put on it
so let me hear what you think

As you probably know, they '03 was the first year for the RX-1, and they had some issues, particularly weight, skid and poor skis-but a rock solid motor. Great place to start from to build a long-lived mod though, you can put in a few bucks at a time and end up with a very nice sled. Mods I'd suggest in order:

1) Decent skis-stock '03s too narrow for a mountain machine. You can pick up used Apex skis for $150 or so, they work pretty well.

2) Consider a longer track and different skid-a common mod is to install a 153 M7 skid, it works well with a 162 track in the RX-1. Dumps 30 lbs or so. More track really helps with the weight of these things.

3) You're right the seat is too da*n low. Consider an undertunnel exhaust (looks a lot better and lighter) and an aftermarket (or Apex) seat.

There is a lot more that can be done, and you can tackle things a little at a time. With some work you can put together a nice machine pretty inexpensively and have something that will last forever. (Change oil once a year and lash valves at 20k+ miles).

Having purchased an 03 RX-1 this year I can tell you it's a lot of fun. I have a bender stage 1 rear mount turbo so it has plenty of go and track speeds around 60 on the climb. Have had to do some messing with the jetting trying to get it right for altitude. Overall though a lot of fun.

Being a first year sled, there were some updates for the sled that need to be done & they are known to use a little oil. I have 3700+ miles with 10 PSI and almost 5k miles total, no problems.

I enjoy my 03. I have done the M7 skid with a 153x2.25 Extreme track, powder pro skis, Apex seat, Maximum Perf Exhaust, different handlebars, riser, etc I only have 1300 miles on mine.
