This could suck [snowbird expansion]

I've delt with the Bird on this before and they are deceitful at best.

Back when they wanted to expand in to Mineral Basin they went in and simply bought up all the land. It was all private, old mining claims and such. They came to our club meeting in Utah county and sold us on the idea of having a place in the bottom of Mineral Basin where a sledder could ride up to the lift, buy a cheap ticket, ride to the top and have something to eat. They were all about "don't fight us, we like you all".

Well as you know, that was bullshiz plain and simple and as soon as they had approval they closed it off and want nothing motorized anywhere near it.

No in Mary Ellen's they have a bit of a different issue. They own the private land in there, but unlike Mineral, the majority is public. They want to put the lift/tram on their own propety, but they want that to open up all the public land to skiing, and thus locking it down to "non-paying" use.

I'm not gong to listen to their bullshiz this time... I'll fight it.

Let me know what to do. Me and my crew are in for the fight as well.

post up when and where letters need to go.

can't stand people or businesses working to kick people off public land for their own personal gain.

Seen Thunderstuck?

At least the "save our canyons" people are not backing snowbird expansion....maybe thats why they had matheson take this to washington to get a wilderness designation on the area.....either way this "land development" is getting out of hand.

i've seen some of them. do they do some riding south of snowbasin but north of weber canyon?

I imagine that the land swap that was part of the new Wasatch wilderness bill was designed to facilitate this expansion. It would seem to me that Snowbird's proposed move into Mary Ellen will have a far larger impact on the Wasatch than anything the wilderness bill would reduce????
