Thinking getting some chest protection?

Like the title says, I am getting a little older and feel less invincible so I think it may be time for some body armor. I tend to sweat a lot when I ride so I don't want anything to heavy.

Tekvest seems to be the standard go to but I like the look of the EVS ballistic jersey. Anybody have pros and cons of these to products? Other suggestions?

When I bought a mountain sled I also bought a tek-vest and it has saved my ribs a bunch of times. I've had a branch poke a hole through my klim jacket and the vest stopped it. I've never tried the others, but I never ride without mine. It doesn't restrict movement or keep extra heat in .

One thing to keep in with the Tekvest you have Laminate of UHMW armor inside. This is a good thing. They will flex but not puncture. Where the harder plastics will break or shatter.

I do where mine every time I ride. I have a Trail Pro model. The Freestyle is the best bang for the buck and my most popular model. Very breathable also.

I do sell these ate 25% off.

I ride with a tekvest also and it has saved my bacon several times, and i do sweat really bad. Just keep a bottle of frebreeze handy:face-icon-small-hap

We run moto style roost guards. I've taken some very bad crashes & never had one shatter (slamming bars, post, trees) and they dissapate the impact more than a flexible product will.

I'm a jumper though, and that protection is more important to me than the flexibility. The thor one I have is pretty comfortable. My wife runs a WOmen's fox one & loves it (she has three types of armor & very much prefers the roost guard.

I prefer to use a product that was made to be used out in the cold, and on a snowmobile. TekVests are made with a specific purpose.

Using a plastic roost guard to me is like using a plastic avalanche shovel (which is NOT recommended by any Avy Educator). Yeah, it has a lifetime warranty on it, but if there is failure, is someone's life worth that warranty?

I just got a tek vest for this season and have only been out with it a few times, so not the greatest review, im just ocming from a comfort standpoint, the thing fits awsome, I just wear a jersey, tek vest and a shell, keeps me really warm. It also is super comfortable with a backpack on and I dont even know im wearing it. Its very breathable, you just have to learn to dress with it as its easy to overdo things warmth wise.

I havent wrecked with it, so cant attest to that, I did plow throught a bit of tree branches though and you just dont feel anything hitting your core, I like the peice of mind as I have hit some branches before that just odnt give... and leave you sucking for air. nice to spread that out some.

I wear a Thor impact rig, it's basically a mesh shirt with armour plates attached on to it. My riding buddies laugh at me and my gladiator suit but it has saved my ribs a couple of times already. I wear it under my jacket and don't even notice I have it on till it does it's job!!

Awesome feedback, thanks. I am torn between the tekvest and the jersey at this point. The jersey offers some arm and shoulder protection but may give up a little of torso compared to the vest. I guess everything is a trade off... And tekvest seems to want an extra $66 for a XXL... I guess it is a fat guy penalty?

Not sure how soon you're looking to buy, but there are some advertisers on here that are having Black Friday/Thanksgiving sales . Might want to take a look at those.

Also, you can get shoulder pads to attach to some of the TekVests, plus other pads are available for elbows, etc. That way you can have the best of both....you definitely want your ribs/internal organs to have protection. Injuries there can be instantly life threatening.

I just happened across the following link in another thread... reviews of products, and found a review of one type of vest as I was looking for something else. Interesting read on the cracking of the plastic in the cold and on impact for the moto-x type protectors.

Good luck with whatever you decide. :) It's good to have that protection...I've taken some hits where I know my TekVest saved me from serious injury.

Same here..it works great, had a small whoops last year and tho I broke 2 ribs it would have been far far worse had I not had the vest on. Hit so hard it ripped the steering post out of the pillow block bearings. And yeah that was my chest that was the "hitter"...:face-icon-small-sho

Glad to hear that your chest protector did it's job, must have been a good hit to do that much damage. A couple of the guy's that I ride with have asked about mine, after having a whoops!!

What are you guys wearing over your tekvests? Everything I have is insulated so I am guessing it's gonna be to hot for everything but the coldest days?

Mine is a fairly breathable model. I wear my under armor shirt with my tekvest over it then my jacket.
