Thinking about a trip out west this year..

Hey Im thinking about making a trip out west this year to either BC or somewhere in the States like Utah, Colorado or Idaho. I have no idea where to start looking so Im looking for a little info from you guys. Im probably gonna have to rent a sled because it would be WAY too long of a drive from here. Always wanted to go sledding in the mountains and I think it could be this winter.

Where are ya coming from?

There are lots of great places to ride in the West--some are just not convenient to get to from an airport. My suggestion based on snowfall, logistics, and ease of use is:

Togwotee and the Continental Divide-- fly into Jackson Wyoming drive forty minutes and stay at Togwotee Mountain Lodge. Sled rentals, food, fuel everything is there right on the trail system. Wake up in the morning and ride from the hotel parking lot.

Got to west yellowstone, will find the best prices on Hotels and rentals and there is NO one out there anymore so trails are in good shape and plenty of riding off trail too!!!

If you choose to give Utah a try, stay here.

You can rent sleds from them and ride from the front door all day and not see the same place twice. Great lodging and great riding. This is only an hour at most out of Salt Lake City. There are plenty of peeps on here that you could hook up with too.

Hell, I'm gonna make this easy on you. Come to Thunder Mountain Lodge. we average over 400" yearly of perfect Colorado Champagne Powder. Sled rentals, guides, ride right from the cabin. Bar, restaurant, cabins and we have a blonde pick you up from the airport with a case of beer in a cooler! Life is good at Thunder Mountain Lodge. Gaurantee you will like it. Check out the website at www.thundermountainlodge.net, or all the posts on here about us. I might even trade for a caribou hunt!

How can you go wrong!!!!! Like Mark says, the snow is great, His sleds are new, the cabins are awesome, the blonde is really easy on the eyes, and the food is first class. Don't take my word for it, just do a search. :face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-hap

A little more info from you may help. Do you want to trail ride or off trail ride?
Do you need a guide? Is night life important or not at all? Do you have or will you have avalanche training? Some areas the avalanche danger is zero and some areas it's high. What time of year, etc, etc.:light:

Off trail most definately. I have been reading on here for years about bottomless powder and Im looking for that. Night life isnt all that important. Wouldnt mind going out on the town a bit but dont want to be hungover as balls the next morning on the way out in the backcountry. I have no avalanche training because there is no need for it back here. Not really into the point and shoot type hill climbing. I would prefer to do a lot of backcountry riding, some tree riding and anything where I can carve and just bury the sled. Im not quite sure about the exact time of year but something between mid february and the end of march would be good for me. I got two weeks vacation that I have left to burn and I would like to make the most of it.

This place has got my attention. I would like to go riding with Burandt for a day just to say that I did and its not too far away. Would consider flying to Colorado Springs and renting a car from there. Could drive to Buena Vista from there and ride for a day with Burandt, then drive to Cedaredge and spend a few days riding there at the lodge. Im gettin goosebumps :)

Fair warning... Riding in the mountains is VERY addictive and will ruin riding anywhere else forever! ;) be prepared to make this a yearly vacation! If you never been out there you might like a guide to take you off trail and into some fun places. Have fun wherever you decide to go! It's definatly a must do in the world of snowmobiling :face-icon-small-coo

I know. Gonne bring a few copies of my resume with me I think. How hard is it to get a green card? lol

i would stay away from jackson, wy. we went last year and it is way to busy the people were rude. we have ridden around west yellowstone montana since 1991 only one bad year of riding. the back country that is !

Well I made up my mind and booked everything this morning. I'm going to Alpine for the next level riding clinics on feb 20 and 21. After that I'm staying at the togwotee mountain lodge and riding with a guide on the 23, 24 and 25th. Gotta drive 10 hours and take 5 different planes to get there but it will be worth it. Anyone else going to be there around that time?
